  • 2004-2008 F-150 touchscreen size (and glare)

I'm looking for a touchscreen that will fit in my 2005 F-150 (Same as the 2004-2008) but there are so many out there. I've searched, and read, and searched and read some more. The overall dimensions of the space I have are 7.5" x 4.25". It has an overall diag. dimension of 9". Are there any out there that don't have buttons on the front or will I have to custom build an enclosure to hide those?

    Thanks.

i beleive that it is still a standard double din opening-- a bybyte frame, or the double din lcd sold in the mp3car store should work.

Would it be possible to fit a 9" screen into that spot? It looks like most people are only putting in 7" but the space is 9" diag. Is it just preference or does it actually not fit?

that really depends on the overall dimensions of the opening-- instead of measuring diagonal, measure height and width, and use those measurements to find a appropriate monitor (a 7" widescreen has different dimensions than a 7" standard monitor).

as long as your radio is using iso standards, you should have a double din opening, and the biggest that you can fit without modifying anything would be a 7". if you chose to modify the dash, the sky is the limit (42" touch screen?...)

Thanks soundman98, that's what I wanted to know, how big without modifying. The w x h dimensions are in the origional post. I was hoping I could cram in an 8 or 9".

I'm not sure why all I see is squares at the end of your post but the dimensions of the space are in my first post: 7.5"L x 4.25"H x 9" diag.

I just recently completed my install and I used an 8.4 inch. The thread was called like fabrication, nexson please come or something like that. You can search for it and I have tonz of pictures how to fit the screen in.

Looks good. What I'm really looking for is the biggest screen possible with no fab work. I've never done it before and I don't want to mess up my dash. If I have to, I'll get a spare one from the wreckers and play around with it before attacking mine. Looking OEM is most important, followed by no fab work so if I have to I will.

minimal fab work will need to be done to make it look the most OEM.

I understand what your saying though.

                      Tical,

Did you ever figure out if you can use like an 8in screen?
I have an 04 and am looking to do a build so I would like to know what you ended up going with.

check this out, only screen dimension http://dynamixcomputers.com/dynamix_...uchscreen.html
A little fabrication and you are good to go. I have one if you are interesting.

To be honest I'm just working on my skin for now and haven't looked too much more into hardware.

Both the solutions that were posted seem to work although I think I might dismantle the screen surround so I don't have the buttons since they wont be used anyways. That way I can increase the overall screen size. Idk, we'll see.

Anyone have any issues with glare in this gen. F-150? Do I need to go transflective or is LED backlit ok, or even just regular LCD?
