  • Brand new EBY701 w/issues!

Hey all, this is my first post and I definitely need some help! I would appreciate the least flaming as possible if I miss anything!

Well anyways, I bought a EB701 with the side buttons off ebay, supposedly it was a 2009 model..it has LED back lighting..before testing it i started dissemblance..Then I plugged the boards back together for testing..no touch ability..even with the windows utility installed! The USB recognizes in device manager as a HID but doesnt recognize any touch!

Please help me out guys. I have alot of computer and micro electronics experience so if some modding is needed..

Seriously? There are hundreds of active members on here...I really don't want to spend another 200$ on a screen..

Hopefully you figured it out already. I assume you have the touch drivers installed. If so check the cable from the touch screen to the main board. I had the same problem before i realized that the ribbon cable for the touch screen had to be flipped over so there is a twist in it. I had it plugged strait in but it need to go in upside down.

Yea check the touchscreen cable, it could have been put in backwards. Try getting the TouchKit drivers here:

haha, i had that same problem too, it was kinda funny, i was like "there's no way in hell that you have to twist the cable to get it to work correctly... but in fact you do....

            Here are some pics

My EBY701 doesn't have any twisted ribbon cables. I took some pictures as I disassembled mine. Maybe they will help you verify you have everything connected correctly. If you need more pictures I currently have mine disassembled (but functional) sitting on my desk.

                Which cable is this?

I have the same problem on a new 629GL (driver recognizes TS, but TS doesn't work).

I'm running XP and the application on the included CD was all I used. There wasn't anything unusual in the install.

                    My touchscreen has issues too

When it is cold it doesn't seem to work right and the linearization never works, but 4 point calibration does. I wonder if the optical bonding process fubared it somehow.

OK, I identified the ribbon cable. I tried it in both orientations and get the exact same result. I also tried it with the ribbon cable removed, and also the exact same result.

In addition to the TS not working, when ever the TS is connected to the computer via USB the computer runs REALLY slowly. EG. the little "song" that plays at boot, about 7 notes that play in about 5 seconds ... well, it takes about 30 s for the notes to play, one every once in awhile.

The gold "finger" contacts should be facing up for the touch panel connector where it attaches to the control board. It sounds like you have a defective touch controller.

OK, gold contacts were up originally (FWIW this would be the non-twisted cable position).
The seller has agreed to take the defective monitor back and give me a refund (and the next one will come from mp3car.com).

I've been having some trouble with my 10.4" lilliput the last couple of weeks on cold nights and mornings too. It randomly clicks all over the screen, and when it does respond to touch, the click will be at least a couple of inches from where I originally touched. After a couple of minutes with the heater running, it works like a charm.

Right now I'm suspecting the 10ft (give or take) usb cable running from my dash to underneath my seat. Is it possible that the cable is more susceptible to interference when it's cold out?

And when I say cold, I mean about 30F. (Cali)
