  • Best 7" or 8" display for DVD picture quality

    My first post here!

I'm looking for the best possible picture quality to watch DVD movies in a car, in a state where light is not a problem (dark environment). Screen size is to be 7" or 8".

Budget is anything up to 1000 dollars, but is flexible.

A custom install is to done, so "openframe" units is preferred.

I will connect it to my Alpine F1 DVD-player that only has S-video output. :-( http://www.alpinef1status.com/e/prod.../dvi-9990.html
I'm interested to see just how good picture I can get from this unit.

    Thanks!

when your only using s-video, any off the shelf composite monitor is going to work-- there isn't much compentition for a composite input 7-8" monitor

for real clarity, step up to a car computer!

I get your point! Of course, something else than S-video would be nice. But as this (audio) system is a rather expensive one, I don't want to replace it right away. I would like to try with a really good display first and then find another source for it.

So, fire away! I want some input to good displays here!

For your setup (which has no computer, I must point out), you are better off asking on a ICE or car audio forum. The lack of a comptuer will generally arouse disintrest in the membership here.

Another suggestion is to go to a car electronics shop and get demonstrations of various products.

DVD playback on a screen of that size is going to be pretty comparable. I would definitely look into longevity and reliability of some of these screens. If picture quality is comparable across the board, then overall quality is the next important criteria in my mind.

        Good luck to you!
