  • Hitachi Panels?

It is hard to come by 10.4" touchscreens here in Australia. But I've come across a seller on ebay who sells screens with (so he claims):
    - Hitachi panel (Manufactured in Japan not China)
    - LED Backlighting

What is the general opinion of this setup?

Only a AUD$215 price tag too.

I think the problem with that is the detail it DOESN'T give.

It says the max resolution is 1024x768, and it supports 800x600 and 1024x768.

I get the feeling that means its an 800x600 panel, but like the lilliputs it will scale down 1024x768 to fit the panel.

For that price, the old adage of "You get what you pay for" is ringing loudly in my ear.

Hitachi panel or no, they are being deliberately coy about any MEANINGFUL details.

It also doesn't tell you what kind of touchscreen overlay it uses, they don't even say if it is resistive or capacitive, 4 wire, 5 wire, USB, serial....nothing.

I say dodgy. I would look to purchase from elsewhere, somewhere where you can get the specs before slapping your cash down.

Maybe I should pay the extra $60 or so and get a samsung panel from OnVon.

I've heard samsung panels are good too yeah?

Panels are panels IMHO, it all depends on the resolution you want, the size you want, the optical overlay (Normal or transreflective), the touchscreen type.

I think shopping for a screen just based on the brand of panel is backwards. Shop for a panel that fits your needs, not just because of the brand name.

Well what I want is 10.4", 800x600, non-transflective, usb resistive touchscreen.

90% of 10.4" screens fit these criteria. So then it comes down to backlighting technology (I'm after LED. 50% are LED.) and the quality of the actual LCD panel itself.

I other threads there's much debate about brands of panel, but mostly discussing 7" screens that most people use. Just checking if anyone knows much about the quality of different manufacturers' 10.4" panels.

EDIT: Just received an email from onvon. Their screen is CCFL backlit. So thats pretty much out of the question.

Lilliput's 10.4" screen also have a positive feedback.
