  • Kenwood ddx630 head unit


    Here is what I have, my brother has this Kenwood receiver in his car, he wants to add a computer to it. On the back of the radio there is only a RCA connectors for both Video and Audio in and outs. I want to know if there is a VGA TO RCA converter that will work for sending the computer signal to the Kenwood screen?(see attachment) I know we won't be able to use the Kenwood's touchscreen to work the computer, but that is ok we can use the keyboard and mouse for this functions.

    I am just thinking that if I try to use a cheap vga to rca it will make the text look blurry and unreadable. What do you guys recommend?

    That cord most likely wont do what your looking for. vga is a completely different signal from standard composite and that "adapter" will only work under certain circumstances. Perhaps this thread will help you:

      The image quality will be "fuzzy" (especially text) no matter what device you use to convert VGA to RCA.
      The adapter has nothing to do with it.

      And Lankin is right about those simple cable adapters. They are designed to work with specific video cards.

        Thank you for your input as well, so pretty much there is NO fix around this is there? I would of thought there was some type of converter to correct the blurry text.

          You may be able to improve the image quality through some advanced tweaking & configuration, using utilities like PowerStrip, but it will never look as sharp & clear as a monitor designed to accept a 60hz or greater video signal at high resolution from a PC.

          A standard-def television (which is esentially what the screen in that Kenwood unit is) has two major drawbacks for PC video signal display:
          • Low resolution. Most TVs are 400 pixels wide (or thereabouts), and PC video is minimum of 640x480 resolution. So you're compressing the higher-res PC video into a smaller area.
            Try this as an experiment:
            Take a 640x480 graphic. Load it in Paint or Photoshop or Gimp or whatever and change the resolution to 600x400. See the distortion?
            Now think about that image being animated with that distortion.
          • Low refresh rate
            PC monitors refresh at 60hz or greater. TVs are built to display less than half that: 24hz.
