  • Anyone tried the capacitive Lilliput on ebay?

I searched, but couldn't find any info. Anyone tried this and can give their impressions? Any comparison photos in direct sun would be awesome.

I'm using the older Lilliput and I want to upgrade. It kind of sucks, especially when I see the new OEM screens.

yeah, i've seen those. they use the 3m controllers and panels which are supposed to be very good. keep in mind that they are single-touch capacitive. also, if you go down that path, make sure the controller he includes is the HID controller which supports Win7 touch, NOT simply the mouse emulator type most resistive controllers use.

The lilliput controller actually has some drivers which support Win7 touch, see thread here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/inpu...uchscreen.html

After reading that thread I installed them on my carpc. Software needs to be written to support the new Win7 touch API and you get gestures like flicking through lists for "free" from the API. current carpc software doesn't support it though.

Yeah, I've seen those. I've been waiting for someone to try them out too, so I can't complain.

In theory, it should be less milky than resistive touch, which is on top of the screen and by itself reduces brightness (nits) by 15%. Now if it doesn't have ANY anti glare treatment, than I fear it's going to be useless anyway.

Have you tried asking the vendor some questions? Is he knowledgeable? That might help.

Yes, this was the response. I didn't ask about the controller though.

Yes this is the latest version of the Lilliput EBY701
          monitor.
          It will auto power on.
There is a wireless remote that is
included for all monitor controls. The button board is located on the top
inside, but would not be accessible once installed.
          The VGA and USB
cables are not shown, but are included.
The Capacitive touch screen is the
best available as far as anti-glare and sunlight readability is concerned.
If you want the LCD Transflecitve as well, we do offer that
          service.

It's about a brand new unit, why doesn't he accept returns, money back after 7 days? Pretty shady if you ask me.

I'll be waiting until somebody bites the bullet...is he the only one selling it?

The latest version of the EBY701 isn't capacitive....if this is a process done to that unit he should be more specific as to what it is.

I was going to ask him the same thing. I may go that route too, although I'm running the old Lilliput, so an upgrade to that would be a good thing too.

My advice: either way go for it... i am working on upgrading my carpc's screen and I bought an 8.9" LED screen from this seller, he/she is very reliable, shipping was fast etc. His version had a resistive panel on it. I removed it, tested it with my 3m capacitive overlay (that had been sitting in my closet for MONTHS!!! ) and the result...? I will never go back to resistive EVER.

You will be more than satisfied once you test it on your bench, in the car it should be just as sweet once installed. I just wish i had done this earlier, because the difference is astronomical. You should ask the seller if the panel is optically bonded though (I'd be surprised but we never know...) the visibility would be

Could you clarify as to what exact differences you noticed with the new capacitative overlay and how much better was the visibility? Im assuming you wont get that glaze affect when sunlight is hitting the screen hard at a certain angle. Does it render having a transreflective screen practically uneccesary?

I wonder if anyone sells a cheap 7" capacitative overlay such that you could just rip out the old resistive overlay and put on the new one.

I'm really considering buying this screen. The only thing i'm worried about is spending an extra $100 and the accuracy and readability be worse than the resistive screen. I wish someone would buy this and give a review!! Anyone want to chip in $5 for a review?

Awesome! I will be holding off a screen purchase until i hear a review from you! Is there any place online to buy the touch panel? searching leads me nowhere.

Well the brightness is better, the characters now look a lot sharper (it was is if everything was slightly blurry with the resistive panel) and the yellowing of the whites is completely gone, in other words the color accuracy just went up. The crazy difference (the main reason why we all are considering capacitive) is the sensitivity... I use Streetdeck for the gestures and everything is a lot more natural. sliding the finger over the glass versus "plasticy" surface is way more natural, no need to actually press on the screen, but rather graze it.

Transflective would be a nice touch but i don't think it's that much of a necessity, i'd rather go for an optical bonding, where the space between the overlay and the LCD is filled with a transparent component, suppressing 2 levels of reflection, take a look at this:
