  • [SOLVED] Black screen Lilliput 629. Screen does power on! Help!

    [SOLVED]
I ordered a new ribbon cable and all is well. I also kept the new controller board attached as the ribbon cable seemed more secure...

So instead of starting a new thread, I'll just edit this one.

My Lilliput 629 started flickering this fall until one day the screen remained black. Now when I say flickering, I mean one day the screen worked, and the next it didn't(or it could have been a separation of a few hours)...it wasn't a literal "flicker".

I ordered the 5in1 replacement(screen connection end) cable to no avail
I ordered the 2in1 replacement(vga and usb end) cable to no avail
I ordered a new controller board from mo-co-so.com to no avail

My screen does register that I'm pressing it...but the screen is black.

There are 4 items which could be the issue..
    1. White cable between the controller board and the screen
    2. Brown cable between the controller board and the screen
    3. The LCD(terminology?)
    4. The circuit board attached to the back of the LCD(not sure what this item is either)

Which of these is causing my issue? I really hope someone can guide me in the right direction...

I just priced out an amp for my subs(that also died on me)...and I really cannot afford both

    Same issue here...
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-...-no-image.html
I have to see if thats the same controller board

What can I test with the multi meter?

      Thanks for the reply!

My problem isn't so much that is flickers...but more of an example like...I can drive to work with the screen working. Park the car. When I leave work for the day, the screen won't display...but the touch capabilities do. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why it does work...or doesn't work.

Did you notice any difference in the cable itself between the 629 and 669? I would definitely like to try this option before dropping money on a new screen..but not if it is a mute point.

      Thanks!!

in the way of appearance, the cables look exactly the same. chris from mo-co-so had emailed me asking how the screen looked, so i let him know in the reply that i had this problem, and solution(just in case he ran across it later)

he also said that the cables should be exactly the same..

I've ordered the 2 in 1 designed for the 629. If that fails to help, i'll give the 669 cable a shot. Otherwise, I've gotta pony up another $300 for an hdmi screen...not looking forward to that

if you need another cable to test with, i wouldn't mind letting you borrow my 629's cable-- just gotta pay for shipping..

just a quick new idea-- it was cold out (google says it was 5 deg. F) and i had to run a quick errand-- fired up the car(has been sitting for at least a week, maybe 2weeks..), and when i turned on my HID's, the screen flashed on/off for about 20 seconds--just like i reported in the other thread, and then stayed on.. my 629 would also flash on and off once when i first turned the headlights on, so i knew it was a problem, but it might be another reason you have issues..

btw, my hid kit is a super cheap one off ebay-- a analog balast.. and my screen is powered from the factory radio wiring harness. i am thinking i need to power it off my dsatx..

              so, do you have HID's?

I wish I had HID's lol. But no, I do not.

I have a direct 8 gauge wire running to an aftermarket fuse block which powers my carPC, and used to power my HD radio. The screen is powered from the Opus power supply output.

I at first thought it was due to the cold weather, but there really was no synchronization with how cold it was and whether or not the screen worked. To backup that theory, the screen first went out during the summer...

Either way, offering your cable for testing is a really awesome gesture. I definitely appreciate it. I am hoping to have the 2in1 629 cable arrive by wed. I'll be sure to let you know if it works or not!!

                Thank you!!

no problem. this afternoon, when i went to use my car, the screen kept doing what it did before until i turned my hid's on, then it stayed on fine.. i am thinking that i really need to connect it to regulated power now..

No luck with the new cable(looks like I've gotta return that to the ebay seller...)

I ordered a new controller board from Chris at mo-co-so.com. It finally arrived today after 2 UPS cancellations...and I still have the same issue after my install.

just a brief thought-- have you tried the hdmi connection? you tried a different controller board, so i don't expect it to work, but just in case...
