  • New build & possible monitor Load issue

Can I get some help? I have just completed my 4th carputer build, and I have a strange problem with the monitor. I used an ECS mini-atx board with the Intel atom dual core built-in processor. It has an Intel 3150 on board video. I am using a Lilliput 809GL-80NP/C/T 8" (4:3) VGA Touch Screen, which has a LED back light. I also made my own case, it is mostly plastic with one side that is perf-metal aluminum for venting. Here is my problem, when I start the PC I get the video for the post. I then get the windows XP boot screen with the blue pills, this displays great. Then when it displays the light blue start-up welcome & the desktop, the screen display starts to flash on and then off repeatedly with a constant rate around 1 second. I know the Lilliput is working fine, when I hook it up to my laptop as a second screen I have no problems. I am powering the Lilliput from my PC power/controller board, to provide stable 12 volts. I have hooked up a standard VGA old school CRT monitor, no problems. I know that the motherboard video works. The strange thing is, if I put a VGA ''Y'' splitter cable on the PC and hookup both the CRT and the Lilliput, then the Lilliput works normal. I also found out that if I run an 12ft long VGA extension cable between the PC and the Lilliput, it will work about 80% of the time. It sounds like a monitor type load and the onboard video might be causing the problem. Anyone ever run into this before? Any ideas I can try to solve this problem?

i think your controller board is bad.

i had a very similar issue with a 669-- it would display the Bios screen fine, but once it got past that, it would start flashing at about the same rate that you describe. i never tried a y-adapter, but did try a different screen on the pc, and tried different cable types..

I did some further testing last night. I found out that if I set the screen res to the lowest @ 480 x 320, works just fine. Although this is to small for most apps to run at. I can also set it to run @ 1024 x 768, again with now problems. But now the fonts are to small to read at this high of a res. So I think that soundman98 is correct with the assumption of a bad controller board. I hope I can still return it to the MP3CAR store.
