I've been researching how to integrate a computer into my G37 and have seen a bunch of solutions that involve taking VGA input and converting it into the 15kHz CGAish format that the stock display uses, Ripplinghurst's M35 and EnfinitI's G37 in particular.

My question is has anyone tried going about it the opposite way, converting the output of the stock head unit into a VGA or composite signal so you can replace the stock low resolution display with a higher resolution Lilliput touchscreen? I think I've decided on almost all of the other parts of the computer, but that one sticking point is preventing me from pulling the trigger. I plan on running a miniITX AMD E-350 with GPS, 3g modem, and a M2 or M3 DC/DC power supply.

What I'm concerned about is in the system drawing of the OEM screen, there is some kind of communication wire from the head unit to the screen and back again and I am afraid if I swap a new screen into the system the head unit will refuse to work.

Thanks in advance for your help. The other Infiniti projects are very inspiring.

hi, have you tried looking into getting aftermarket adapter kits for your car. I know acura/bmw have kits where you can use factory stock navi/screen and get input to vga. Please update if you find anything.

Any updates on this project? I am looking to possibly purchase a 2010+ G37. Still unsure about the best way to deal with the stock screen.
