  • Lilliput ghost

I finally got my Lilliput, and I must say I had a good experience talking to Ray at Extreme Audio and the screen was shipped in less than two days. The only catch is that I've got the famous girl in a field image on the screen, and there is a dead pixel.

The thing about the girl picture is that the image almost seems too "strong" to be just a ghost image. And if it was, why would the edges have a white fog pattern to them? Do you think it's possible this is some sort of test pattern?

I tried switching white and black, but the image is only visible when the screen is unsync'd at a very low resolution. Other than these issues though, the Lilliput is a very cool screen, and it worked fine at any resolution I threw at it.

The dead pixel isn't near the top right, is it? The one I sent back for replacement had the girl, and one "red" pixel near the top-right of the screen.

the "ghost" image is an image stored on the vga ctrl...
Displayed when out of range or whatever

There's no ghost effect on a tft.

Same brand of screen, odds 1:1
Has "girl" ghost image, odds 1:3 (jurassic, normal, girl)
Has exactly one dead pixel, odds 1:10 (many have none, some have 2 or more)
Has a red pixel dead, odds 1:3 (red, green, blue)
Pixel is in upper right quadrant, odds 1:4 (assuming 4 quadrants)
Both visit mp3car.com, odds 1:3 (one in three, probably much greater)

Combined odds, around 1:1200. That means there is probably at most a 1 in 1200 chance that two screens would occur randomly with these same defects, and it's probably worse than that. I would agree with Frodo, it's _far_ more likely this is the same screen!!

I returned it around the last week in October.

I returned it because the touchscreen wasn't working and it had a popped red pixel. My return clearly stated I was returning it for both of those reasons.

Fair enough if they fixed the touchscreen, but if they knowingly re sent one out that had been returned due to dodgy pixels, hoping the next buyer wasn't so fussy then they're a bigger bunch of sheisters than I thought!

I hope we're wrong and it's just coincidence, but it's a bl00dy big one if it is!

Its highly likely that it is the same screen given the odds.

However, comparing with what constitutes a dodgy screen in terms of dead pixels its well within acceptable limits.

Unless the panels are A grade (mission critical or medical) which requires no dead pixels, I'd be very suprised if the panel wasn't reissued as is.

Most PC tft panels are grade B and that means a certain number of flaws. Its not cast in stone but judging by other manufacturers panels, I would expect Lilliput would consider 1 dead pixel i.e complete white or black as "manufacturing limits" or a total of 4 seperate dead sub-elements.

It may not have even been the Extreme Audio who did this. Lilliput will definately re-issue it with one dead sub-element.

Yes, I agree its not very good if you receive a panel with a dead pixel (I have done in the past on a Kenwood screen), etc, but here in the UK there is AFAIK only 1 manufacturer who will guarantee your panel has no defects and even then they on do so for 101days after purchase.

The freaky image of the pachinko girl is also a major defect. You couldn't use something like that in a professional install.
