  • Do I need a VGA display?

I got an old laptop off ebay to power my car pc but i'm pretty sure it only outputs in VGA (the manual didn't list any NSTC/PAL compatibility). Would I have to get a VGA display to use with this laptop or can I just get a wire that converts VGA to RCA video(red/white/yellow - the yellow one)? The wires are pretty cheap but I don't want to waste $15 to get a wire just to test it and find out it doesn't work.

I mean will it actually WORK? Will an LCD screen meant for component video pick up a VGA signal properly?

      Gonna be running media engine.

you would need a scan converter, and those things arent $15

Yep, they are more like 100. The extra cost of a scan converter to run a composite display isn't worth it. If you had a tv-out it would be a different story, but I think you should just go for a vga screen.

Would it be worth me just getting a VGA panel instead?

I'm hoping to go with an in-dash (not necessarily motorized) unit and I want to try to keep it <$450 w/ touch kit. I was looking at one at digitalww for $360 w/tsk installed which was in dash, but it's component. The vga version is $550 ish in dash w/tsk. Is a vga lcd panel really that much more?
