  • Running into some issues mounting LCD

I am trying to plan where to put my LCD.

I have a 7" Lilliput that is going in a TM-701L dash mount.

    (not my pic, borrowed)

I need to keep my HU. So the plan was to remove the vent below the HU, and put the lcd in there, it would flip up perfectly. I did some investigating tonight and I need some help. I took off the vent, removed some flue like plates, and realized my idea would work (plenty of room), but it would take alot of fabbing. I need to somehow get a mount made that will hold the lcd/enclosure securely enough so it won't move, but the opening is so large I am not sure how I can accomplish this. Does any place make a din sized cage that I could mount in there that might make this easier?

My second problem is that the large opening is the heating duct..and air is blown through it even when the defrost is on. How bad would that kind of heat be for the LCD?

    no man
move the head unit down to the vent, just move the wires and the mounting rack thingy
then put the lcd in the top

I thought about that, the only issue is the dashboard over hangs 3-4", so i'd have to mount the TM-701L upside down (not a major problem, just dont know if it will work that way.

after reading over Armen's howto on the lilliput in a TM-701L a little closer, it looks like the LCD can be flipped no problem, the only question is if the entire unit will still work correctly upside down.
