i got a 10 in touchscreen off ebay for 40 bucks...no idea what brand or if it even works, and here's why

it doesn't have vga, and i don't know what type of video cable is actually on it...but there is one...then, there's an orange ribbon connected to the touchscreen overlay, but it doesn't have any sort of connector..finally there's a little power cable (i'm guessing a power cable) but i don't know what type of connector is on it

i'm wondering how i can adapt it for vga and use that ribbon to connect the overlay via usb...and also what to do about powering it

sorry for the cryptic and inarticulate description but it's the last thing on my mind before bed

oh, and i'll try to get some pictures up in the near future, but i wanted to see if anyone had any immediate suggestions/questions

Hard to guess by your post, but I think you have a bare panel with a touch overlay. You need a controller for the LCD panel. You need a controller for the touch overlay. And what you said is a "little power cable" is probably the CCFL backlight (pink and white wires right?). You'll need an inverter for that, too.

First thing to do is determine exactly what you have. Links to the eBay sale, pics, and/or model #s are the only way someone will be able to tell what you've got.

    Good luck.

Its hard to say anything for sure with the limited info you gave, but if there arent any obvious video inputs, then chances are very high that you simply lack a vga controller.

Now, the really ****ty news is that these controllers, when bought seperately, often cost atleast as much as the LCD display. Expect in the area of 150-200$ from what I have seen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but theres a reason you should research before you buy.

yup, and i suppose hindsight = 20/20, but i knew even less about computers then than i do now (relative to everyone else on these boards)

see, i got that thing a year ago when i first conceived this project and before i even stumbled upon mp3car.com...then i got distracted by all the applying for college/graduation nonsense and the package got lost in the uncharted region that is my room...i found it a week ago when i was doing some spring cleaning
