  • Liliiput & cigarette Hard Wire, How ?

    I guys,

I have a 7" Lillitput and need to know how to hard wire it in for power using the 12v cigarette lighter, basically i dont want to use the big connector that plugs into the socket, ideally would like to cut if off then hard wire it into something like the Stereo system for Power, is this possible.

The connector has two wires (Black and Black with white stripe) i have a new 3 Series e46 BMW with the BMW Business tape player, anyone no what i need to tap into.

    Thanks
P.s, i have searched on this but cant find anything.

    Cheers all

I think (you'll have to check) that the black with the white stripes is +V and the black is 0V. All you do is connect both these wires straight to the back of the 12V cigarette lighter or straight to your battery.

To check which wire is which, plug in the cigarette lighter adapter that came with your lilliput and use a multimtere to get the reading at the pin-outs (dont connect lilliput). If the reading is +ve, then the +ve lead on your multimeter points to the wire with the +V.

Doesn't he need to hook it up to 12v+ regulated power?

          ok sg.

whats that mean, i was simply going to do what Masch told me to do, connect the cable directly to the back of the cig lighter( was also thinking about adding a small swith to it.

Oh, I see. My Starvision does not have one of those.. Am I screwed? I've been hooking it up temporarily to my cigarette lighter with no problems thus far.. I haven't had it plugged in when I start my car though (alternator spike). Should I be scared? I was planning to power it off my ITPS if it can handle the draw (CarPuter will get power from ITPS too!)

Yeah, from my understanding you just dont want to use the cigarette socket right? Just splice the end of the egg shaped regulator towards the cigarette plug end connect it to the two wires going into your cigarette socket

If you search the forums, you can find posts by someone who said you dont even need the egg-shaped regulator.. just use a diode. The +0.7V bias will keep the voltage low enough for your screens just in case it goes over (like 14V+) - The screen will switch off when cranking though
