  • Yes, another Lillyput thread

Ok, so like the majority of people here who have this monitor (lillyput) I have a problem.

Some how my touchscreen dosent work anymore. I didnt change anything, add any new software or hardware. Went out to my car last night and it just stopped working. POS!

Ive narrowed the problem down to there being some kind of loose connection in the wire or inside the case. If i apply massive pressure to the case where the wire goes in at, the Touch Screen works again.

So the question is, how do i open this thing up without breaking stuff. If seems from reading here its very easy to open it up and then have to replace all kinds of ribbons and cables etc. I dont want to have to go through all that hoopla to fix this damn thing. Is it possible to open it without having to replace ribbons? Or am i screwed???
Bear in mind i am not an electrical person, and if i have to solder anything I might as well replace it.

Also, if worse comes to worse or i chicken out at trying to open the case, is there anywhere i can send this thing to get fixed for a small fee, digitalww maybe?

    Thanks everyone.

Opening up is no problem. as long as you are careful and don't pull the back from the front too far or too quickly none of the cables will break. Just handle with care when apart.

      sounds like heart surgery

I went out to my car not to long ago and the TS was working fine, for about 10-15 minutes. Without me pinching the cable. I even wiggled the cable and it didnt stop it from working. Then it stopped again.
anyway, im not sure if im going to crack it open or not. To be honest im not at all satisfied with the quality of the lillyput monitor. This is my 3rd LCD touchscreen, and all three have had some serious issue.
I think im just going to buy a new screen and use this one as a second monitor in the car. Does anyone make a LCD screen with touch that actuallly works and keeps working?

What is the general opinion on this screen from Armen
      http://www.digitalww.com/VGA_TM_700VGA.htm
and how long is it taking people to get them in there hands?

      Thanks.

do you have one of the newer xenarc sreens? Is the cable connetion on the back of the monitor any better? I remember the one i had, had the crappiest connector known to man kind, monitor lasted less than a week.

Mine is brand new, So i suppose its the newer model, its got a plug that looks just like a 20 pin version of a external SCSI plug. Feels quite secure. does that help?

The VGA cable is pretty crappy. Mine is not working very well either... However, the problem is with the cable, not the monitor. I was told that Lilliput bundled the cables from third party manufacturer. Hopefully they are aware of this issue and get some better quality cables.

The problem here is with the default lilliput touch glass panel. The connectors at the edge have been known to produce problems. In fact, all the complaints I have received so far is due to the touch glass panel. You can get a replacement from digitalww though which lasts longer.

I'm still trying to find cheaper vendors to replace the touchglass panel that came with the lilliput for my customers

You can send me your monitor and I will find the problem for you. Since you are in Chicago it shouldn't take long to ship.

The top layer on the touch panel (in a lot of the cases) will start to separate from the glass. The contacts that run along all sides stop making contact, casing the symptoms your monitor is having. Also it could be a bad cable (main VGA/Touch screen cable). Or it could be a loose connection inside the monitor (between the panel and the controller).

                  New panel will cost $45
                  New cable will cost $10

                  Let me know.

                  Armen
