  • using old Gateway Profile with no VGA output?

I'd like to apologize ahead of time if this topic was discussed before. I did a search on the forum, but found nothing that helped me with my problem.

    My problem:
I have this old Gateway Profile, and would like to use it for a carPC. I would rather make use of it then scrap a decent computer. However it DOESN'T have a VGA output. I opened it up and noticed that it is using an LVDS ribbon cable from the motherboard to the LCD.

What i would like to do:
Use the motherboard, but get rid of the 15" LCD and use a smaller LCD with touchscreen capabilities (lilliput or xenarc).

What would be the best solution for this problem?

If there is no way to use a smaller LCD screen, what online retailer sells extended LVDS ribbon cables or touchscreens?

or should i just forget about the whole idea?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Throw it out and get yourself a regular computer. You can build yourself a real good computer with CPU, Memory, and motherboard w/ onboard everything for < $200. If you can even find a way to make the gateway work, it will probably need a LCD inverter board or something that will probably run you at least $100, countless hours of frustration, and never be as good as just building something from scratch.
