  • Anyone with an in-dash LCD in an Acura Integra?

    Hey Hey,

I am thinking of installing a carputer in my Acura Integra 2dr '96. The in-dash space is rather limited, so I require your help in figuring out which touochscreen would be best for installing in my car? I am interested in the newest xanarc or lilliput screens as they seem pretty nice, and have built-in usb touchscreen, but I am unsure of whether they'd fit in my car's dash console behind the shifter stick (where the cigarette lighter and ashtray used to be...) I think they will not, hence I am hoping some of you might have a suggestion of other LCD's which may fit.

Currently I have a Pioneer Premier MP3 CD player/radio and the RIO (Empeg) Hard drive based MP3 playback system. I would like to keep those, in addition to adding the screen right under them.

The dimensions of the space are: L:~5", H: ~4.5".

    Hopefully you'll have some suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Chris.

I have a 2000 Integra which should be the same layout as yours, and I'm planning to put my screen over the double DIN opening and not have any stereo at all. Just going to have an amp and have the PC hooked up to that. I can understand why you'd want to keep the stereo if its a nice one (and has aux in) but why are you bothering to keep the Rio Empeg if you're building a carPC? If you take that out, then you could get one of the in dash fold out LCDs from digitalww.com, or you could take out the ashtray and cigarette lighter out from underneath and have enough space to flush mount a 7" LCD.

I used to have a '96 Integra. I installed a 6.5" VGA LCD in the double din area. I ditched the radio/cd player and used a amp. I actually am selling the LCD if you're interested? If you want to keep your stereo you're going to have to relocated it or mount the LCD somewhere else.

Here's the auction for the LCD: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MESE:IT

      Good luck.

I would like to keep the Rio Empeg as it has served me well for a number of years now, and I am not quite sure what kind of real life functionality I'll get from the new carputer I am gonna put together... But considering all goes well, then yeah, the empeg will be removed.

Your idea of a fold-out LCD from digitalww.com is a good one, will check with them.

The ashtray and the lighter are already gone, so in theory i could install the fold-out LCD below my empeg. Will have to check if the space clearances allow for this, as the shifter is mighty close to that, and I kinda need to change gears...

I don't think there is enough room to install a flush-mounted LCD...

Another two alternatives is to use a ceiling mounted LCD screen, but again the car is small so it probably wouldn't fit very well, and another choice is to mount a LCD screen on top of the dash, which would require drilling holes and passing the cables over an area which has the heater core and ducts, etc.. So not a desirable alternative...

The dimentions of your LCD suggest that it won't fit in the dash below my stereo and the empeg. I will check the exact size of the double din area tomorrow, will let you know, but i would prefer not to get rid of my current setup just yet...

By the way, does the LCD you are selling have a touch screen integrated in the design?

I want to have the same installation as yours. Could you send a pic of your screen? Did you have to do a lot of custom work to get the screen in the double din? Which screen make and size do you have?
              Thanks for your help,
