  • Laptop Screen Need Help!

Ok, I've decided to use my old laptop for my system rather than buy a new mini system. I want to have my laptop screen used as the display with a magictouch interface (clips on over screen). My question is, is it possible to extend the connection between the laptop and the screen? I want to detach my screen and mount it with my laptop hidden, but the "flex" cable that connects the two is about 1 inch long (obviously a problem). Anyone know any solutions or where I can find a cable extension? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

There has been a thread or 2, but the longest I think that worked was about 8". It was made, if I remember correctly, from Cat5 cable.

There was a longer one that worked. It was like 4 feet i believe, and the guy said the trick was that the controller for the LCD ....or maybe the florecent lamp...or the psu for the lcd.....one of those things had to be right next to the LCD.....a long cable would not work. On and if your LCD connects via the plastic type connector.....its so difficult your pretty much out of luck.

Thanks for the posts guys. Unfourtunatly I am connecting with the plastic deals... maybe I can take the controller out and mount it behind the lcd and extend the connection between the board? Who knows, I really don't know much about computers... Is there a problem with making a long flex cable? Do you lose power in the signal or something? If so maybe theres a way to amplify the signal?

It just seems like this should be possible!

          Thanks again

I found this article but I can't understand it (LOL). Does it help me?
            http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...at5+8%22&hl=en

I don't know if they are talking about the simple monitor output (like what you can hook a regular monitor cable with) or if they are talking about the ribbon like monitor cable inside the computer like with my laptop.

            Thanks

Ok I found a post through extensive searching.

I'm really don't have enough energy in me right now to analze it all, but it does seem possible to extend the cable. The guy who posted this had a dell (inspiron 2500?) and I got a dell inspiron 3800 (Good news). Now I just have to figure out all this invertor and backlight stuff which I don't understand. Thanks
