  • Help! Screen Distortion when the car is on

I have a regular TFT 7" monitor mounted in my dash being fed by composite RCA video signal.
The RCAs run to the back and right now are unconnected to anything. When I turn on the screen when the car is off, i get the regular screen. However, when the car is on, the picture shakes and i have some mean scanlines.
Any suggestions on what might be causing this, and what i can do>?:??
    thanks!

check your wires, jiggle and move and watch what happens.

    Trial and error my friend.

possibly (and this is totally a guess) it could be a ground loop... search these forums for ground loops.

Short answer, make sure the thing is grounded, and grounded well.

          SUCCESS!

it was running off the lighter switch, when i connected the screen straight to the battery with the car running, no more distortion
so i guess i'll need to run a wire straight to the monitor through a fuse
          thanks for the help everyone!
