  • Weird LCD character "Inversed P"

I tried searching, but I didn't find anything that specifially addressed this topic, and there wasn't anything else too close to it. Basically I have a caharacter being displayed in the spectrum analyzer that is a square with what looks like a P in the middle. (a block is completely lit, except for the pixels that make a P shape). I have had this problem with both Lorty's plugin and what I am now using, Win LCD. It seems to be when the block gets completely lit up (as the frequency progresses a new row of pixels ina block light up) once they are all filled it turns into this character.

Is there any way to stop this? Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, I have no idea what causes this... I've seen it with MPXplay also. I don't have the problem with winLCD when I'm in win98, but I have severe problems with it running in 95. These programs were designed in 98 and should only be run in it.

About the "p" and "y", Maybe try different printer port settings. Also make sure that the printer cable is well insulated. Once I was testing with the cable in a coil on top of my tower and everything was fine, but it slipped around the tower and the characters started freaking out and the spectrum analyzer was ALL over the place

Well I am running Windows 98 with the preview edition of Win 98 Lite, and I have the windows 95 shell, do you think that could mess it up? I don't have time right now, but when I get home later I can try changing the port settings. Do you mean changing it through device manager, or something else, perhaps the BIOS. Because I have a weird bios and I don't think it will let me do anything to the ports beside changing the IRQ. I'll post if I can figure it out.

yeah, I meant through the BIOS... either set it to ECP or EPP (ECP first choice).

It is possible that the 95 shell is messing things up. Try it on a clean 98 machine just to test it.

          Good luck,

Well before I even tested it, I tried the Markus Zehnder Plugin, and I like this one more because of the customizing ablility. http://www.markuszehnder.ch/projects/lcdplugin/
Supposedly it has a spectrum analyzer too, but I haven't figured out how it works yet. But even without it it looks cool, you can position stuff in an exact place and display just about anything you would want from the comment on the iD3 tag to the current date.

Alives the anylyzer works only on the bottum 2 rows from a lcd with 4 rows.

As for the analyzer to work make sure there are no other vis.dll in the plugin directory.Because somethimes the analyzer won't work and you have to turn it on manuely, if there other vis.dll in the dir.

I love this plugin and lookin' forward to see the next version, witch is comming soon.

yeah i know, it wont work on mine because mine is a 2x40. they need to re-code the SA so you can tell it where to go...wouldnt be that hard.

Yea i have the same problem with the P's.

look at this thread i posted before
                            http://www.mp3car.com/cgi-bin/ultima...c&f=7&t=000447

pics of lcd showing this there too.

I used 98se and got those Ps. Anyone fix this? Software update i say is probably needed.

Yeah I read through the website and found out how to get the SA running, but every plugin still gives me the p problem. Also when I try to run it it only shows up on 20 of my 40 columns. Unfortunately I cannot try too many things as far as port settings because my bios is pretty useless. This seems to be a common problem among the char LCD users... anyone know what is going on??? I might be able to try it on another computer but then it might be harder to determine what is causing it, so I don't know if it would help. Could it be a parallel port driver? I know in device manager it is called ECP Parallel port for the machine I am using, but I am not sure of the driver... perhaps there is an update that would help. I can't really mess around with it while I am writing this, but once I get some time I will try a few things (now that the fun of the new plugin is gone...lol)
