  • 6.4" TFT where can I get one?

    Hey There,

I'm wondering where the best place is to get a 6.4" TFT LCD that does lots of colours, and is suitable for DVD playback etc. It only needs to do 640*480.

Has anyone had any experiences with something like this? I'm going to make it into a single DIN motorized pop out the dash style, so it can't be any bigger.

    Thanks

DO NOT do business w/flat-panel.com until they can show some resemblance of customer support. I bought a controller card and it came...but w/no docs, ppw, nothing!!

I really don't even know if the controller card will work w/my LCD since I have no proof so far (although it will output to my monitor).

          *sigh*

Hmm, it's a tad too dear to get from flat panel (well to get it over here to OZ anyway)
Bugger. Is there any places over this way that does TFT LCD's?

            I haven't found anything yet....

But I'll keep you posted (mostly for the Aussie people on here)

hey bj, what are you using to control the motorized tray for the screen? i have been looking around for some stuff but i haven't seen anything good yet. im interested in doing that this summer and would appreciate any help you can give me. also, are you going to have the screen pop out and rotate or just pop out of the dash.

BJ, I've been looking at getting something like that so I'd definitely be interested in a 6.4" VGA TOUCHSCREEN coming out of the dash in a single DIN!! How's the research coming?

I'd even pay for well described plans and layouts on how to do this!!

Nobody seems to be replying to this thread... may have to start a new one.

Anyhow, I just want to know if anyone has done this. I'm talking about using servo's to motorize the LCD and make it pop out of a single DIN. That would be pretty cool!
I know nothing about servo motors and such.
                  Any help????

I know I've written about them before and I swear I don't work for them, but there are 6.4" VGA screens at aeicomp.com for sale, but too expensive.

as for motorizing it, I wouldn't even try.

yeah $900 for a 6.4" is a heck of a lot. and this maybe just be me (and/or the picture they use to show the LCD) but, why does the vga have an rca connector

I would think you would need some kind of servo to make your own motorized in dash pop out screen. I just wish someone on this board would attempt it and do it!

                          just a thought:

could u somehow use an old cdrom? like take everything out of the cdrom and leave the motor and tray and somehow attach a lcd to that. you would probably just have to lift the lcd up manually to view it.

                          just my .02 cents
