  • How much to get a 4x40 display to me in the UK?

I'm wanting a 4x40 backlit display for MkII of my MP3 player but refuse to pay Ģ90 ($123)for one from RS Components!!

Not to be too specific - the display I'm wanting is the Seiko L4034 4X40 LED Backlight LCD - with HD44780 Controller Chip

Therefore, if there is someone from the States (the cheapest place for parts - as i'm sure everyone will agree!!) who can get one to me here in the UK - i'm willing to pay $60. That should be enough to cover buying, postage and packaging.

E-mail me at [email protected] and we'll arrange payment details, address details etc.
    Best regards,

    Hi,

Go to www.eio.com and order a display there.

The display you want costs $20 (with free shipping in US)

As you don't live in the US e-mail them about the shipping costs.

I ordered a display for like 2 weeks ago, and before that I emailed the company how much the shipping would be.

The grand total came to $28.55 (so that's $8.55 for the shipping) As I live in the Netherlands it could be a little bit cheaper for you, but don't count on it.

Anyway, it would cost you less than half off what you are willing to spend on it.

    But..
    Be patient.
EIO is absolutely not the fastest company around.. For us in Europe it could take like 4 or 5 weeks till we finnally get something.. But I think It's well worth the waiting.. After all.. I saves a fair amount of money.

    Hope this helps you out!

    Greetz.

Just watch out for VAT charges from customs in the UK - I got stung (only about 10 gbp) - but its something I thought about when I ordered my LCD from the US.

I havent ever ordered from these guys, but they might have what you are looking for - and the price they quoted me was reasonable (not like RS) - http://www.keytron.co.uk/.
Have you tried the pther usual suspects, like Maplin?

      Hope this helps

About the customs... I ordered my TFT LCD from www.partsexpress.com and it cost me $160
Added the shipping expenses and the final cost went to $186, not bad i tought.
One week later I received a postal package warning from the postoffice; i tought it was the LCD. Wrong! It was a letter saying the LCD got stuck in the customs and i needeed a DU (a special document for importing goods). I payed $50 to get it! And they said i must pay 17% over the $186! I turned blue when i hear it... Well i really hope the LCD works... itīs the only bad thing that hasnīt happened...

        Total Costs: 186 + 50 + 31.62 = $267 !!!
I promise I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN

Find somebody in the US to buy your parts. Then have them ship the item to you. They can then declare the item as a gift with a low value. I do this on eBay when I ship to Canada (Only if they request it, and they do).

Cheers for volunteering ODYSSEY, we all know what to do now when we want something from the US hehe only j/k but if you claim it as a low value gift there will be no or not much insurance and they would probably open it at customs and avaluate it at more than it was stated, which has happened to me on an ocassion.

seems like all of you guys have been telling about eio is absolutely true

I emailed them 3 days ago about the CONFIRMATION of my order which I placed over 2 weeks ago.. but as of yet, I still haven't heard anything from them..

Hmmm.. I still need that display though...
I emailed them, so seems to me like the only thing I can do is wait... (I paid using Paypal, Is there any way I can stop it, if I haven't heard anything from them in lets say.. uhm... 4 weeks ???? )

same for me, i sent a order mail for a LCD 3/4 weeks ago and didnīt had a answer. Then i re-sent the same order for the two e-mail adresses they posted on EIO and got nothing. Is EIO out of business? For good?

PS: I didnīt make the mistake of sending them money trough Paypal, iīll simply wait for a voice... or mail

                      Well, the funny thing is,

That when I emailed EIO about the shipping charges, they replied within 2-3 business-days.

Lets see if I can dig it up
                      Dear Mark,

Your total including shipping, for one Seiko L4034 Backlit LCD, is $28.55.
When paying on PayPal use thi address ([email protected]). We look forward to
                      receiving your order.
And that's exactly what I did, emailed them the money, and now I haven't heard anything from them.
