  • Cutting down a touch screen?

I am curious, does anybody know or have experience to indicate if it is possible to physically "cut" say a 7" touch screen down in size to fit on a 2.5" screen? With my handy dandy glass cutter?

I was thinking of getting one of those little 2.5" TFT screens from eBay and using it with an AC control, but would like it to be touch screen.....

Kind of keeping the AC / heat controls always there and out the the front end system / screen.

    Any thoughts?

Wouldn't it just be easier to see if you can buy a 2.5" touchscreen overlay?

no, the screen relies on measuring the resistance from one side of the screen to the other, and top to bottom, therefore if you were to cut it in half you'd be cutting off one or more edges of the screen, thus be losing the contacts that it uses to measure from. it's also doubtful you'd be able to hook up new contacts.

and it's also doubtful you'd be able to easily cut it, I think touchscreens are two pieces of glass with a layer of something in between, I think you'd run the risk of shattering the thing if you tried to cut it like a regular pane of glass.

however, you can buy touchscreens for PALM pilots on ebay for extremely cheap. they might not be exactly the right size for a 2.5" display, but they should be somewhat close, maybe those would work. they are the same technology, so they might even work with normal touchscreen controller boards directly.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

They don't have in stock or priced, but will definately look into it.

          Thanks.

Also, I figured cutting would pretty much destroy the circuit, but figured I would ask anyway... thanks for the confirmation...

Here is another thought or concern I have...

How will the computer handle two different touch screens? Would the cursor move on both, would either touch screen control both screens?

The main screen is my current 7" Xenarc with TS... works fine, it ofcourse runs off the VGA controller.... This second screen (2.5") I was thinking would run off the RCA video out from my M10000.....

Is it possible to have the 2.5" screen just show one application only (at full screen) and have it's touch screen control it's cursor and have no effect on the main screen (7" Xenarc). And vise-versa?

This is starting to sound complicated.....

Why not buy some cheap palmpilots and write some code to interface between them and you carputer. I'm not sure if its ben done but it sounds like it would work. I have 4 palm pilots with serial connections. Plus you could run seperate programs on them. would be nice for navigation. Then you could see the whole screen and still have a touch screen control on the palm.

As to why it is awesome 98.5-100% light passes thru and extremly wide temperature range to work in.

I second this choice. A Palm IIIc should prove to be a nice color device with touch screen. They are probably very cheap now too.

the software/drivers that come with whatever touch screen controller you use should offer multiple monitor support. All of the t/s I sell do. But, you will need to use the same brand/chipset for both touch controlers ie elo, microtouch, sun tai, fujitsu, etc.
I don't think multiple monitor support will work between 2 different controllers, unless the master driver you use will support both controllers.
To answer your question, yes, the mouse pointers will move independant of each other and can be application specific.

I talked to my rep. @ ezscreen, he quoted me 30.00 for the 2.8" ish panel, with a 2 week lead time. Add 42.00 for the usb controller. This is a 4 wire resistive.
