ok so im powering it using an AT power supply. sometimes it opens a little then closes. then when i finally do get it open, it wont display anything i put into it. when i plug in the usb, my computer says it keeps connecting then being disconnected. over and over. also, once i close it, it wont reopen until i start up the psu again

What model screen? Have you tried to eliminate the AT power supply and use the one that came with the screen? Did a power supply come with the screen?

Have you tested with a voltmeter to make sure you have it hooked up to the right rail?

Since you can't hook it up to a car's true 12 volt, you could buy a $10 power adaptor from Radio Shack or find something around your house with the correct power specs and try that for powering the screen.

I just think it's your AT power supply. I'd try to find a way to test with a different power sup.

            Right.

the problem comes from your PSU : it should not be strong enough for high current.

In direct 12V car batterie, it sould works very well!
