  • vga-lcd cable for allenruble card

    hey all,

    i did a search and i couldnt find the data sheet that is floating around in here somewhere. im looking for the image that shows the pinout connections for the 15-16 wire connection for the allenruble controller card. also, does anyone know the part number for the rectangular connector that goes on the control card?

    any help is appreciated.

    the part that plugs into the card is just a standard 8x2 connector with .100" spacing. (Like an IDE cable, but only 8 long instead of 20)

      alright, if i order one from, say, digikey, do you think it will come with the metal pins for the connections. or will i have to get those seperately.

      i know i sound lazy asking this, but im about to walk out the door at work and i cant check the online catalog until i get home and have some time.

      anyone with the pinouts for the cable????

          you can use an old floppy or ide cable.

          or even an old AT parallel port backplane thing.

            i know there are several options to make a cable, that i can handle. but i still need the pinouts for the cable. there used to be a pic on allens site, but it isnt there anymore. i dont care if i have to make a cable, i just need to know where the wires go!!!

                        if there is anyone who could build this for me could you please post here and tell me how much you would want for it,

                        thanks kardas

                          I can't find the diagram anymore, but here's how it's wired...

                          1 -> GND
                          2 -> +12
                          3 -> -
                          4 -> -
                          5 -> -
                          6 -> -
                          7 -> VGA PIN 8 (Blue GND)
                          8 -> VGA PIN 3 (Blue Signal)
                          9 -> VGA PIN 7 (Green GND)
                          10 -> VGA PIN 2 (Green Signal)
                          11 -> VGA PIN 6 (Red GND)
                          12 -> VGA PIN 1 (Red Signal)
                          13 -> -
                          14 -> VGA PIN 14 (Hsync)
                          15 -> -
                          16 -> VGA PIN 13 (Vsync)
                          >
                          VGA pins 5 and 10 go to the common ground.

                          Hope that helps.

                            those who got the diagram from allen, do you need to put that shielded mesh over the wires and solder to connector ? and did you make an external ground for the cable ? (on diagram theres a metal ring coming off to be grounded)

                            or can you do a basic wiring job, and should work ok?

                              Paulzy,
                              I bought a metal housing at radio shack for the VGA connector and then grounded the shielding to that. I also ran out a ground for my power connection. Looks a little kludgy but it works great.

                              On the inside of the VGA conenctor I was painstakingly precise and used heat shrink anywhere there might be shorts.

                              Kardas,
                              You can make this cable, it isn't to hard, just time consuming. Just go slow and be careful.

                              It took me a long time to make mine and I have 2 more to build. Unfortunately, you couldn't pay me enough to make more than I need. Sorry and good luck.
