  • Lrge Roof Mount with DVD and VGA IN....any ideas?

    Hey all,

I'm planning my systems and doing some testing in Virtual PC and I'm looking at getting a large roof mount monitor for the back of the car. I'd like it to have a inbuilt DVD player but also a VGA input so if its not playing a DVD it will display the carputer signal.

I've asked the MP3Car.com store and they haven't seen any, I found this one on the net: http://www.itrademarket.com/CarLCDMonitor/254596

I think its made by these guys:

If it had a TV Tuner in it aswell that would be perfect but not essential, I was hoping to get a monitor thats a bit bigger (like a 15). Has anyone seen any others or had experience with this brand? I'm a bit sceptical about the quality.

    Cheers,

    Burjo

The easiest and most likely cheapest way to do what you want would be this:

Pick up the 15" roof mount display without built in dvd, like this one.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/15-Flip-Down-Mon...QQcmdZViewItem

Then pick up a mobile dvd player with built in tv tuner, loike this one.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-1...spagenameZWDVW

then open up the lcd display, find out the make and model # of the lcd panel. Purchase an lcd controller kit that has both VGA and RCA video inputs. Cost approx. 150.00

You can then have your cake, and eat it too.

If you were to buy the roof mount display w/built in dvd player, the controller would be all on board, so if you were to switch it out for one with vga, you would loose the dvd player.

Granted, the idea I present has an extra item (dvd player) but you will save some $$ and have what you want. Plus, the roof mount without dvd is thinner, so it will mount closer to the roof.

I have no affiliation with the vendors referenced.

      Thanks for your reply.

What you suggest is a good way to do it, that way I can buy the LCD/brand of my choice and be happier with the quality (assuming I make the right choice of course!)

Time for me to think about where I can mount the DVD player.

      Cheers,

      Burjo

      EDIT: Spelling.....

Xenarc has a 15" drop down widescreen vga.

        http://www.xenarc.com/product/1530yr.html

The quality is exceptional, the picture is beautiful, bright, and clean. If you're up to it theres even room for a touchscreen kit, but you have to diy.

Yes I did look at this one previously, I think I will get one of these if I go down the road of roof mounted screen and seperate DVD player for it.

          Cheers,

That's a nice screen. But, if he goes with that, he will spend almost 400.00 more. But, if he doesn't want to do the install work of swapping controllers, then it is worth it, I guess.

imo, you're taking a risk of not being able to find a controller board or of it being more expensive than you had thought. The xenarc screen has it all right out of the box, with a warranty. DVD players are madly cheap nowadays and you can mount them any way you like... there's always room.

True. But personally, I would mod with a controller, especially since I can get controllers for any lcd panel out there (with exception of course to older, DSTN, STN, and FSTN panels, which is a mute point anyway since they are useless)
Your point re: warranty is a valid one though.
