  • What VGA LCDs can my SBC drive?

    Hi,

I have managed to acquire a very nice little SBC, specs can be found here: http://www.ibase-i.com.tw/ib710.htm

I am having difficulty in understanding what LCDs/cables i can connect to the LCD connector or the 18-bit LVDS connector.

If any of you guys can point me at a series of lcd models and cables that would bve compatible with my motherboard it would be greatly appreciated.

Detailed information such as pin information on the LCD connectors can be found at http://www.ibase-i.com.tw/IB710GUIDE.PDF

Any help would be appreciated, i just about have the system ready to roll, have a passively cooled via C3 800 and a 6gb notebook hard drive and 50watt PSU. Just trying to nut out what displays i can drive without resorting to scan convertors or additional controllers.

    Regards,
    Joshua Smith

From what i can gather most LCDs have hirose connector, 41pin or whatever. Now im guessing because i only have a header on my motherboard i would have to get a cable with the correct hirose connector for the lcd and strip the other end and solder the correct wires to the correct pins on the motherbaord? I have checked various lcd panel pinouts and the pinouts on the header on my LCD and all the pins are there, just all seem to be in a diffrent order.

Where is the best place to pickup hirose lcd connectors?

If you have a header, you should go to digikey and get the appropriate connector so you dont have to solder to the board!

By the way, where did you get that board and how much, I really want one just like that!

Thanks for the tip, ill check out digikey. I picked up the board from a forum not unlike this. Set me back AUD$280 around $150 of your US bucks. I'm not sure where you can grab them new or what price.

You got a great deal then. My SBC has a header for the LCD that looks like a laptop hard drive header, except it is 40 pins, not 44. It should be easy to get a cable like that if yours is the same.

You should be able to get most LCD's to work with that board IF you can get a pinout for the LCD. Then all you have to do is match the one on the LCD with the one on the board and presto! you're in the money.

Yes the connector is very similar to the notebook hard drive connector.

Is there some kind of documented proceedure for switching around the wires to match the pinout. I understand matching the pins on the lcd with the pins on the mobo, but the actual process of pulling it apart and rearranging the wires is a bit daunting.

I am in the same boat. I have this SBC:
              http://www.icsadvent.com/products/pd...yProduct=15553

It has a 40 pin connector that is labled in the manual as flat panel lcd controller. The board uses the Chips 69000 video chipset.

At one point searching on the net I came across a site that had 40 pin connectors and 31 pin hirose connectors that I think would work for interfacing this board with an LCD but i can't find the site.

If someone has interfaced their SBC with an LCD, post here and let us know how. I have been using the regular VGA output on my SBC to run an LCD.
