  • Lilliput 7inch - How to extend Ribbon Cable?

    Hi all,

I have the Lilliput 7inch touch screen. (model 619....)

due to space constraints for my project, I have to split the screen from the controller board. I see they are connected by the +-5inch ribbon cable.

For my project I need them to be at least 3 feet apart. Some questions:

    1) Is it possible to get Ribbon cables that long? I have seen extenson ribbon cables fr sale, but they are much too short.

    2) If not a cable, I will have to solder some wires myself. But the ribbon cable has like 20 wires. Are all of them needed?

    3) Even if I was able to extend the cable to 3 feet, what would that do to the image? Would shielding help?

    4) Am I asking too many questions for a noob?

    Thanks
    Mike

first, I doubt many have done what your talking about, second, if you can solder that small, then you may have a shot, but until you try it, it's hard to be sure... 3' is pretty far.... I'd try it with a cat5 cable, they seem to be good at extending without loss or interference, but your extending a ttl cable, & 3' may not be do-able, truth is theres only one way to find out.....

if you said like 14" or so, I'd say you have a much better chance for sucess...

you may have to consider installing the controller behing the monitor somehow - of course i'm recommending this blindly for i don't know where the installation is going. But it may be your only choice....just do the best you can.

Yes I have a good solderer...and quite good skills

I advise you not to make it yourself...By the adapter would be the best solution for your needs...
