  • Got my Xenarc in today!!!

    It looks very nice...I plugged it up to my home PC first, very crisp and clear. I recommend it to all!!!

    One question. Can I splice into the AC adapter cable and run that to a power and ground wire? Don't want to put another inverter in unless I absolutely have to.

    I'll post some pics whenever I get the thing installed in my car. Gotta do some fiberglass work though, ugh.

    Does it come with a transformer? If so what is the output rating of the tranformer? If it has a 12 volt output rating you should be able to cut the cable after the transformer and wire it straight to the battery.

    Before you do that though I would look into a cigerette lighter adapter from Radio Shack so you don't waste a perfectly good transformer. If you take this suggestion, make sure the polarity of the connector is correct.

        CRAP! Something has gone REALLY wrong!

        The thing was working on my home PC, through the wall outlet.
        I take it outside and splice the power cord and run it inline with my power inverter's power/ground wires. PC in car comes on fine but no power to TV. Hmmmm, i take it back inside and wire the AC cord back to normal and it doesn't work INSIDE now!!! No power at all!!!!! Any ideas? I didn't think anything I did could've broken/fried it..... CRAP!

          Well I would not think you could just wire that thing straight to your battery. If you want a clean +12v, you should get that from your comps PSU... As far as I know, the voltage from a battery can range from +8 to +14.... That type of device expects to see a clean +12, while something like an inverter can deal with voltage differences correctly because its built to.... Sounds like you fried it man :/

            A car's voltage is not always @ 12v. I'v seen spiking as high as 14~15v DC. Although it's a little late, I'd say you needed a voltage regulator on it...

              Well, tha back of the monitor, where the power plug is says:

              DC 10V ~ 36V

              Doesn't this mean it "should"be able to take any of that?

              EDIT- reading over the manual (sheets of paper, not a bound book) says a MIN of 8 and a MAX of 14.

                RMA it. Say "Well I just plugged it in and nothing happened" lol. See if theyll replace it for you...

                  It could have gotten too many amps from your car battery.. Did you use a inline fuse before the screen? Most screens don't like more then like 2 amps going to them. Mine will die if 3 amps gets sent to it and a car battery can put out well over 40 easily. If you used a inline fuse it would have blown and saved the screen. Always run fuses when attaching anything to the battery. A lot of inverters will use around 20-40 amps. My 300 watt uses 40amps. See if you can return it and just say it didn't work as soon as you plugged it into the wall at your house. Next time, use a inline use

                    Sorry hijinks21 but you are way off base here... Current flow is based on the load of the device, not the available supply! A fuse is only there to limit the short circuit current if you happen to get a short (but still a good idea to have one)!

                    As for the reason the screen doesnt work, it sounds like it needed regulated 12 volts... Does your carputer power supply have enough power to run the screen off the 12 volt line?

                    When you get it back, maybe that would be a solution?

                        YAY!! Talked to the guy at SpySupply007 (very nice guy) and he said they've NEVER had an issue with the Xenarc monitors, nothing like this. So, maybe it was a weak screen.

                        SHOULD it work plugging it directly inline, or will it fry it everytime?

                        He is over-nighting me one, and i'll just send mine back (with the good cable, not my spliced one).

                        So, if anyone is interested in a Xenarc, I recommend SpySupply!

                          When you say inline, it sounds like you are putting it in series with your power supply! Parallel would be the only way to wire it up... I cant think of any reason you wouldnt want to power it off the carputer power supply unless it is not powerfull enough.. You might even be experiencing grounding issues if the power supply is not grounded to your chassis!

                            I wired it and my power inverter from my AMP power wire and then to a ground under my middle console. Inverter works fine.

                            Thats what I call "inline" Probably wrong term.

                              Inline would be if you had:
                              + > amp/psu/etc > screen > -

                              in which the amp/psu/etc would ground through the screen. I'd still be a bit aprehensive putting it dirrectly on the battery if the req. are 8-14vdc, as I've seen my own car put out over 14vdc.
