  • Newbie! Need some advice/tips.

    Hello all!
The name is Cameron and I've been playing with the idea of a car PC for a little bit. I was going to simply use an old laptop screen and some old PC bits in the trunk, but quickly figured out that was a royal pain. My current idea is very simple, but I think it should work well for what I want it to do. It is also very NON-expensive, which is good 'cause my kids use most of my $$$. Here is what I'm planning:

Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook (P3-500, 60Gig HD) mounted in trunk to Kodiak mobile dock w/ external ports and integrated shutdown controller.

802.11 Wi-Fi (w/ external antenna), Bluetooth, and USB GPS.

Lilliput (or similar) 7" touchscreen mounted in-dash.

Microsoft Streets & Trips Nav software.

My thinking is that I can use the laptop as a simple car PC, then pull it out when I need it. What do y'all think? Don't worry about being nice, just honest. I would rather know about any issues I may encounter before I set this thing up. Thanks!

    It will work.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

      sounds alright.

as long as the laptop's 500mhz processor is capable of doing the tasks your asking then i cant see any major problems with your setup.

      oh, and welcome BTW.
