  • Some newbie concerns regarding wiring...

    Hello,

I am currently preparing to put a carputer into my Acura TSX and I was wondering if you guys could help me with some questions I have regarding how I might provide power to the carputer. I have an aftermarket subwoofer and an amp in the trunk and I was wondering if I could split the power line going from the battery to the amp and provide power that way to the carputer? Also, how would I wire the sound system into the carputer so I can listen to MP3s, HD radio, etc via the pc? Lastly, if I buy a the "average" computer screen (probably a 7"), can I power that by splicing the cigarrete lighter wires (happens to be in very close vacinity to where I'd like to mount the screen).

    Thanks for the help!

    Regards,
    Ish

Ish, read the FAQs. They address these issues. Make sure you read the one on choosing the proper wire gauge.

in general, yes... but only if your wiring can handle the load of both the amplifier and carputer.

what gauge power wire do you have running to your amp? what is the fuse rating on the amp?

do you plan on feeding the carputer audio directly into an outboard amplifier? or do you plan on keeping your head unit?

be sure you buy a PC monitor with a VGA or DVI input. don't buy a "video monitor" (which only accepts composite/s-video input).

yes, but only if the monitor has built-in power regulation.
