  • A few noob questions

    Hey guys,
After lurking for a while i've decided to start a car pc project of my own.

So firstly is it possibly to bypass the ignition, so I can start booting my pc before i get to it with a remote.

Secondly, where can I find the power consumption figures of the Intel BLKD945GCLF2 and will the M2 ATX be able power it and a harddrive and DVD.

Thirdly I was wondering if the Fusion brain comes with an API like Phidgets, as I'd like to try and convert my climate control to digital using motors to wind/unwind the control wires.

    Yes.

    Don't know.

YES! But you'll need to buy a $5 cable that goes from the M2 atx to a BTX connector on the board.

    Don't know.

Not sure why you even bothered to respond uraijit, that wasn't very helpful at all.

Yes, look into some of the keyless entry auxiliary relay outputs. If you already have a keyless entry that is stock, you may need to buy extra parts, or sacrifice something else, like a remote trunk popper.

Yes, an M2 will power that + hdd + dvd. Hell an M1 could probably even do it. At peak load, I'd be surprised if this motherboard consumed more than 35 watts. And no, you don't need the 20 pin to 24 pin (BTX Connector) adapter that was mentioned earlier. It'll work without it.

Thirdly I was wondering if the Fusion brain comes with an API like Phidgets, as I'd like to try and convert my climate control to digital using motors to wind/unwind the control wires.
As far as I know, not yet. I believe someone is working on one, but I don't think the Fusion Brain team has an official one yet.

Thanks for the answers tidder, but I've come back with two more.

I've decided its going to be close to impossible to fully digitise my climate control, the control wires make me want to stab people, so my current idea revolves around keeping the three control wire dials in place and replacing the rest with an small lcd screen

So essentially what I'm looking for is a 3.5 x 1.7 inch touch screen, I don't suppose they exist?

Also is it possible to run these two screens seperatly from the same PC?

I think malcom2073 might have some insight into this, I'll point him to this thread.

Yes, it is possible to get touchscreens that size, check out mouser.com they have a bunch.
You would probably not drive it directly from the computer, but rather go through a microcontroller to give you USB or serial access to it. This is not a simple project, and will likely require a good amount of electrical and programming knowledge, so be prepared.

There are also USB powered LCD screens you can get, but I'm not sure if you can get them with touchscreen capability.

Hi mate, Did you manage to find out anymore info on controlling your climate control.

I am thinking about trying something similar.
Havn't looked too deep into all the details yet just looking to see if anyone has attempted this type of project, who could share some valuable information.

I know a bit about electronics, computers and programming.

              Regards Michael
