    Hello Mp3 Car users,

I need some help and trying to get ideas which way I should go with my truck. I will be getting a Chevy Tahoe 2008-2010 not sure) but I'm trying to see what would be the best option for me. I want to know if I should install a Car-Pc or install a coastaltech GMX322 which is my dilemma. I see both benefits of both products and I see the negative of both. So which one would you choose and why......

well, being that this is a car computer forum, i would be inclined to pick the carputer over any 'feature unlocker'...

I just wanted an answer to my question not trying to start controversy but, if as well as other MP3car members feel that my question hurt there feelings then I will not be a member. It just a question not trying to promote Coastaltech but try to get people opinions. Is that what forums used for to get other opinions or reviews on different products. But let me get off my soapbox and Wish everyone a Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

soundman wasnt trying to be rude, he was stating his honest opinion. It just happens to be that he stated the opinion of most people on this forums, as if they decided not to go the carpc route they probably wouldn't be members

That being said, I say you should go the carpc route. All in one units will never have the feature set, customizability, or expandability that a carpc can have.

i apologize if it came across as rude, though malcom summed it up very nicely-- the general consensus, and the largest reason for installing a carputer is usually because you feel that the factory unit, or other aftermarket units (whether they are add-ons, or a complete headunit replacement) are missing the functionality that you want/need.

Usually, when someone is wondering if a carputer is in their best interest compared to 'x' option, the answer is usually to go with the other option. the biggest thing that is easy to forget is that computers will usually need more maintenance (both with software and sometimes hardware) than a name brand option, like the coastaltech unit, so try to remember that in your decision.

if you feel that the coastaltech unit gives you all of the functionality that you want that the factory radio is missing, than it is perfect for you.

for me personally, it lacks web, audio processing, and music storage, so i would have still chosen to go with a car computer because a acceptable, name brand option that has what i would consider 'acceptable' audio processing would be at, or over what i spent on the carputer, and would still lack web, and music storage...

Let's look at this from a different perspective.
If you were to go into a crowd of Burger King enthusiasts and ask whether you should get lunch from Burger King or McDonalds, what do you think their response will be?
They will tell you that Burger King is the better option.

You did essentially the same thing by entering a forum for car computing enthusiasts and asking about comparisons between a PC and this Coastaltech unit.
Because we are all about the PCs here, you're unlikely to get much (if any) useful information about the Coastaltech unit. There may be one or two people that are familiar with it and can give you information, but I wouldn't count on it.

In my personal opinion, if you are even asking whether a PC in your ride is worth it, then it isn't, at least for you and your situation.
As has been pointed out, a PC requires more maintenance, troubleshooting, and tweaking. It is a project that is never really completed, as there are software updates, new functionality to add, and so on.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
            How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.
