  • My first project (2000 mitsubishi eclipse gs)

    helllloooooo mp3car! lol

This will be my first project, theres a list of things i want to do,

    1) put my pc in the car (including in-dash touchscreen, 7" Lilliput EBY701)(ps, do i have to buy a preassembled screen? like the one here? or can i buy the regular ol' same model screen and mount it myself which would be easier on the wallet) i currently have an after market radio

    2) put a 4 channel amp to drive my four speakers (music will be played from my pc which has a 5.1 surround sound card, sound for amp will be driven by pc also, music from pc--> amps --> speakers/subs)

i need tips, hints, special tactics, any help is much appreciated!

    welcome!

if you haven't found it yet, www.eclipseforums.org has a lot of info on the 00-05 eclipse, though the forums have been on/off recently, so it might not work all the time...

i've got a 01 gt spyder so feel free to pm me as you run into problems ...

link to my worklog-- not the most complete, and in need of updates, but a good start:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/work...ever-ends.html

there are a couple of other eclipse installs, but not many, and most pics don't work...

if i remember right, the GS does not have a factory amp (or is it the RS?...), so you will need a replacement amp to drive all your speakers if you choose to replace the aftermarket deck. if you are on a tight budget, motorcycle amps run about $30-50, and are reported to be about as good as factory decks(though i never used one, so i can't be sure of that). or you can get any ol' 4 channel amp from your local electronics place.

if you are planning on replacing the headunit, i would highly recommend getting the preassembled unit, for warranties sake-- if you assemble the dd kit yourself, it will void any warranties-- the one in the mp3car store already is assembled, so mp3car will at least give you a little bit of a warranty--i built my own, and assembled it myself, using a 619gl-led, and the bybyte frame-and voided all warranties right away-but if i had to do it over again, i would just buy the pre-assembled version that comes with some sort of warranty-- it really helps knowing that if the touch screen don't work, you can just rma it...

and then there is this golden link--there is no car-specific info, but should answer a lot of questions that you might have in the future:

i dont really mind voiding the warranty, im a tech for 2 electronics companies so im good with repairs, plus its easier in my pocket if i didnt buy the preassembled one

so if i get the lilliput EBY701 would i need to get the DD frame from mp3car? keep in mind i already have a DD frame, im using it with my alpine head unit,

if i dont have to buy a new frame, how would i mount it to my frame? i completely take the plastics off etc then what?

hello, i'm also pretty new to the site but i can help you out, i've got an 02 eclipse gs.
to help out soundman the gs does have a factory amp (it's under the passenger seat)
and for your frame question, i think that you would use the factory brackets that held the cd player and the cd pocket in (i had the infinity stock cd player, yours may be different) but with the brackets i was able to use them with an avic f700 which i am building my carpc to replace. If i remember correctly also (for sure with the infinity system) there are rca inputs for the speakers that are behind the head unit so you should have an easy time running the output from your pc to the speakers

mine is a black box(about 4" wide, 1" tall, and 8" long) under the passenger seat, and says either MITSUBISHI or INFINITY across it on a 1/4" wide gold stripe...

the amp was only mounted under the passenger seat, so if it isn't there, you don't have it, and will need to consider a different way to amp the signal before it gets to the speakers.
