  • looking to buy/build a carputer

hey everyone, i am new to this site. i just bought a 2007 cadillac cts and have been debating installing a carputer. i am not technically inclined enough to do the install or build myself so am looking for a pre-built carputer equipped with navigation and possibly a back up camera if thats possible. I want it to look very stock like where the stock gps would be. any info would be a huge help. websites or anything useful. i love the way this one looks as far as software goes but not completely sold on the install..

There are a few users here who have done stealth installs in CTS's including Nastymigui http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...ac+cts+install, you didn't have to go over to cadillacforums to find him. I believe Smeesseman did a full write-up on his install complete with details on mods to the CTS. AfterDigital has a sweet install as well.

Where are you located? Maybe one of them will see your post in a month or two and chime in. Their installs have been so troublefree, they rarely visit.

I'm starting my install in my XLR-V in a week or two but its a whole different animal.

i don't know if a carpc is a good idea for you...

carpc's, for lack of a better term, are cobbled together...

we take hardware that is technically meant to be used in a home/office environment, and then put in a highly volatile mobile environment..

when it comes to software, very rarely does anything work exactly as expected in all setups, and many software packages/combos can take some time setting up, and modifying to get working the way you want them to...

then there is servicing-- i can guarantee that eventually, something will happen with the hardware-- it could be bad memory, a damaged hard drive, or something else-- but it will require service at some point--who is going to service it?

...you might be getting in over your head with a carpc, because it is not as easy as just installing a car stereo...

if you do want to do a carpc, the mp3car store can pre-build computers for you, and pre-load the OS...

for the install, you would need to talk to some local car audio shops, and see if any would be interested in taking it on-- some won't so double check first.

        car pc service??

my brother in law is very smart when it comes to computers and i am sure could handle the updates and stuff. if not ill have to do a lot of research and trial and error. the install is my main concern beacause my cts is my baby and want it looking nice and clean and stock esp on the inside....
