  • Clio 2 mk3 carpc project

    Hi.

I was wondering if someone could help me.

I've got a Renault Clio 2 mk3 from 2004 and i was thinking about making it a carpc.

    But i got some problems.

For starters i was things about putting something like an in-dash 7" screen but my dash is 1 din and i can't seem to find some screen to it.

One thing i was thinking was to find a way to put the screen on top of the dash like in this picture:

Another thing was the software i'll be using. I want one with all teh media functions and car stats also, some internet options and bluetooth options.

Tomorrow i'll take some pics to put here so it becames easier.

    Thanks for you're time

for generic questions, check the faq's, there is a lot of info there.
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/advfaq.php

for the screen, lilliput seems to have updated their single din screen with a model that has metal gears for screen movement--the issue with the older model was that the plastic gears stripped out, and the display would no longer automatically come out..

so while it appears that they have corrected the issue, i have not read any reviews of the updated model, so can't be sure they worked out all the bugs.

        thanks for the answer.

about the screen you're talking about lilliput GL701-NP/C/T?

i was thinking about building a full system with radio gps movie internet. I was looking to some frontend software. i was thinks about centrafuse. but really i don't know wich is the best.

And one more thing. to connect the radio to the pc with the default radio antena how do i do it?

i can't be sure that is the monitor in the mp3 car store is the exact monitor-- the other links i have seen specifically state that it has updated metal gears..

at the moment, ride runner, and centrafuse are the 2 most popular, and the fe w/ the most potential, open mobile, is still in beta..

just browse the fe section, and see what each has to offer-- there are tons, and all of them at least offer a free demo, many are completely free.

for radio, i don't use it, so not completely sure-- i think that many just connect to ther oe antenna, but not positive.

You could move the 3 units in your dash.
            hazard area, radio, heater controls

However, going with a 2 din monitor type you'd have to consider how you control your sound from the pc.

I'm going to check the store out.

About the program i've tried to use centrafuse but it runs a little slow in my pc and i don't know why.

i was thinking about putting a radio+gps+tv antena on my car. the shark type.

there are some app's to control sound.

if i put a 2 din screen i loose some controls like the hazard area.

I'm going for the one din screen and try to put another screen in the top of the dash.

You don't necessarily have to loose control areas because of a 2 din: just relocate the controls and you're all set.

Here's rough (and I do mean rough) mock up in MS Paint of possible mounting locations:

OPTION A - White border: you can either have this as a flip up screen or build a case for it.
OPTION B - Yellow border: You would need to relocate the hazard and surrounding controls then fit the screen in there (less headache involved in my opinion.)
OPTION C - Red border: relocate the AC controls and you'll have enough space for a 2 din screen.
Now keep in mind, with option b and c, you would need to relocate the head unit if you're planning on having it integrated into your setup.

Otherwise a motorized in-dash monitor would do.

                Either way, good luck

                  Thanks for you're reply mrkjcy.

The best option for me was A. A think it would look great on my car. I was thinking about putting 2 screens on my car. One in-dash for audio and stuff and another on top like that for gps or dvd. About option B and C how can i put a 2-din there if there isn't any structure to it?

But isn't a bit hard to build a case or mount a flip up screen?

I'm gonna search in the forum from some diy.

One more thing. Is there anyway to riderect the radio sound to the system? Like the radio, cd and usb function?

                  Thanks.

                    could you explain more?

do you mean connecting a carpc, and a radio to some amps, and having both playing?

As far as option "A" goes, I know I've seen a few in the "Show off your project / Worklogs, Fabrication" sections, so have a look around there - you should be able to find plenty of ideas... Such as these ones: Click here and Click here and Click here
Also, you should still be able to mount a 2 din (option B or C) even without a structure. You will just need to build the bezel for it and/or mold it into the dash.

I think he meant - routing the sound from the radio to the PC or vice versa by means of an auxiliary input.

I'm gonna start building some stuff to see how it goes and gonna post it at the showoff section =)

gonna start right now with some pics =)
