  • Want to seriously upgrade my interior

First of all, Ive been a reader of this site for years and finally have a car I want to keep for a few years, so here I am posting.

Currently I drive a 2000 buick lesabre. I wanted to know if a Dell HP Mini 110 would be a good laptop to break down and use as my car pc??

Also, I wanted to just store music on the pc or either some type of external HD for music/movies. My question is would I need a better sound card for my laptop??

That sounds like a horrible idea when you can buy itx boards that will properly fit into a case.

I disagree with agentq. For music playback, I think it would work decent enough.
But why take it apart? Just use it as-is.

As for a better soundcard, I suggest trying out the builtin audio hardware in the car and see if it meets your liking.
If it does, great. If not, get an external sound card for better audio quality.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
      How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

the only reason I wanted to take it apart was because the lcd is current bad on the laptop. I like the mini itx boards but I had this laying around, its fairly new with somewhat good specs. Also, I was worried about ventilation. I want to stay away from a trunk install.

My laptop install is working fine. I removed the screen, wired up the power button to the modem jack and added an external sound card. Works great. If the laptop is sitting there with a broken screen, use it!!

              i missed your updated post...

i don't know if you want to take a laptop install as far as philg(he re-did his entire console),but as long as you keep ventilation in mind, it should not be a problem. that atom board only needs a little airflow across it while in use..

My plan at this point is to remove the screen and place the rest of the laptop on a docking station and stashing is nicely in a center console. Currently, I have 60/40 bench splits and want buckets. I'll be fabricating the center console from scratch.

                Thanks for the support guys!!

well, if you are already fabbing the console, then check out philg's build log-- probably a similar concept
