  • Ipad Thoughts...

Ok so I was reading over this

    http://www.soundmancaraudio.com/how-...l-methods.html

And got thinking, is it really worth the $200 extra to get the istream device. I did some research and I can't figure out an answer. I am leaning towards no.

My current set up pulls from a car pc sound card (cheapy cheap one), and sends out to speakers, sub, amp, etc.

any insight for a newb to this would be welcomed.

    Cheers

it depends on your audio preference.

if you are really picky about audio quality, and downloaded itunes media just doesn't sound good enough, then yes, it is more justifiable.

if the standard itunes downloaded music sounds fine to you, then no, it is not needed.

I mean yes I love good sound, but is there going to be an arguable difference between $20 and $200?

We are talking a non audiophile car set up here. I am not looking to bump music so the world can hear it, but i do want those in my car to really enjoy what they listen too.

Also as far as the cables go. Is that JL one a good option?

ok, let me try some different terms.

can you hear the difference between a 128k bit/sec encoded track, and a 320k bit/sec encoded track?

if you can, then yes, the $200 would probably be worthwhile. if you can't, then it is really not worth it.

that jl box is a volume control and a preamp(boosts the signal to a better level for the amps).

there are plenty of volume controls on the market--all require you to run the audio cabling to wherever the knob is planned to be..(the jl cl-rlc is not-- you just run a phone cord to wherever you want the knob)

and there are plenty of preamps, but none with a remote level adjustment.

i personally use 4 of those for my carpc and they work great, although a little pricy at nearly $60 per unit..

i should also mention that i am not affiliated with soundman car audio, i didn't even know they exist until they started doing the ipad installs (which btw, look to be some very nice fab work)..
