  • Custom backlit momentary switches

    hey guys,

so i was just trying to mod my climate control to be blue (led) instead of green (bulb) and somewhere in the process i stuffed the way it fits all back together so i could never get all the switches to work properly... over the time I continuosly made it worse and now im no longer able to use the old buttons on it.... HOWEVER all the electronics still work

I was wondering if its possible to make my own buttons which i can then solder onto the previous terminals and thus making my own completely custom climate control.

My biggest issue is how to make buttons that look roughly like these

Ie: black surround and illuminated centre. not that shape id be happy with small squares but i have to do 14 buttons total so i need some sort of system which doesnt waste too much space

Does anyone know how to accomplish this???

    Thanks heaps

years ago, there was a decent thread in the fab section about this..

i believe the best way to accomplish that is to cut some vinyl letters, apply them to some opaque plastic, and then hit it with the black paint. peel back the lettering, sand down the edges, and you would have a backlit button.. one of the problems with this method is that vinyl cutters have limited detail when cutting this small of lettering, so you might also need to resort to using masking tape and a razor blade.

thats a pretty damn good plan youve got there actually, but man its gonna be tough to get the detail i need for it

do they make banks of buttons anywhere? or how would i go about fabricating the opaque ones?

i think that pretty much covers your other questions as well.

I think the laser idea would be best (but certainly not the cheapest) solution.
