  • Dual headrest input from iPod classic

Putting in dual headrest monitors in the excursion. Abandoned my apple tv in the car plan.

Want to put dual rca inputs in the car so each kid can choose what movie they want from ipod classic then output into the head rest monitors.

I also want them to be able to watch the same thing at the same time and on the stock flip down screen from one of the ipod input. The headrest monitors im looking at have dual inputs.

So I will need to split the audio and video signal from one. Is a Y splitter going to to work? I have done tons of internet searches on this and really cant nail it down.

So many of the search results are around car audio and amplifiers forums. Bottom line sounds like I can do it but the quality revolves around the output voltage of the device. So in this scenario the ipod classic is the output device.

So im curious if an ipod classic will output enough juice to split the audio and video signals to the different screens. I cannot find anything that says what the output voltage is.

I have seen 12 volt car video splitters for multi screen set up but nothing for audio. Could I use the same thing for the audio left and right signals?

Havent seen anything automotive that is for video and audio.

    Any help appreciated.

this is usual setup but unusual hardware choice
if you got dual screen output from ipodt that's already extremely good progress as i cant possibly imagine how that would work for audio if you vidoe player can support dual mono then thay can be used stilll very unusual as ipads are not yet designed as full car entertainment engine

Id say if you want to experiment with carPC then you can install Centrafuse fronted and you have all you are asking there already But good install willl take some time to build

thanks for the input. Im getting ready to do this soon. I posted another question about how to tap into the DVD out video feed to the factory monitor. as far as audio and video from the iPod classic goes if kids want to watch the same thing then its gonna go through the factory dvd aux input which will then go to the video splitter/amplifier. This splitter amplifier will send video to the factory flip down, to the headrest monitors and the front dual din pioneer head unit. Audio to the head rest monitors for use of the IR or plugged in headphones will be done by the front head unit using the dual zone output.
