  • Getting back in the game.. whats new?!

Time flies... my project car is coming back

Around 2008 i installed a CarPC in my Volvo 760 turbo. The car has been parked since 2011ish overgoing a complete overhaul. I look back at the carPC with allot of love, here are 2 pics i had a flip screen and pc in the trunk with roadrunner and allot of videos

Now my project is getting a boost again and wondering whats new in the carpc world, its been long and i read allot about tabelts.. seems cheap but is that what i want?
I always hated how my CarPC could not play nice quility videos, but by no all new hardware will play fullHD? what is the latest frontend, is there a im getting back in the game topic somewhere

My flipscreen is still good and i love the casing look in the trunk.. what can be reused.. what should be renewed to be cool in 2014 :P

    Thanks!

Welcome back to the fold! I would think all you need to upgrade is mainboard and maybe a ssd. You will have no problems playing video's with the right hardware. I personally like the gigabyte z77n-wifi stuff 4 gig of ram and an intel i3-i7 in it add a ssd and you are all set. I use Driveline for a frontend since it handles all my hardware and works very efficiently, nothng to install just run the exe. Good Luck and keep posting your progress. SNO

Thanks! The prices on the mentioned items sound good. I might also want to upgrade the flipscreen to a 2 DIN format one. Would fit better to the interior thats being reupholsterd.
However that would mean ditching the radio.. dont really use that too much but i do like it from time to time,

I remeber that back in the day there was this car radio on USB, it looked horrible and intergration was not perfect... whats the deal on that unit these days and frontend that work with that.
What kind of software is most recent, i used to have roadrunner

      Did some googling

      Screen option: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Samsung...-/120964621436

      or this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en

For screen I would get high brightness and 5 wire resistive touch http://store.mp3car.com/Lilliput_669..._p/mon-123.htm unless cost is not an issue and you went capacitive touch. Not really needed in a car enviroment. CF, Roadrunner/Riderunner and Driveline are the current frontends at the moment, there are a couple of others but I think they are still in development. Your best bet for radio I think would be the monkeyboard dab+ unit http://www.monkeyboard.org/ and is supported in those 3 FE's SNO

I am using the cartft usb fm module, its not great but I have decent reception here in The Netherlands.

allthough I see your from here as well, and they recently made DAB+ available in The Netherlands, so I would suggest you investigate that option as well.
