  • ps2 to computer help plz.

i am thinking of buying a desktop computer and mounting the tower in the dash where radio, ash tray, a/c controls are usually located. i am redooing the entire interior of my 97 jetta with fiberglass to make this possible. I also have a ps2 that i am going to putin my car. how can i hook the ps2 to the computer so the games show up on my monitor? also will bumps cause my computer to freeze or screw up in any way? Plz help me. thanx

If you have a few slots open on your computer, you can put in a vid-in card. That will allow you to display PS2 composite out on the computer screen. Pretty easy to do that.

As for bumps, it depends on how you mount your HDD. I use laptop drives. They are slower than full size counter parts but they can withstand shock better. As for CD, and bumps, I have no idea. I guess it will skip. But chances are you should not be and will not be playing your ps2 while driving. Even if your buddy is playing, your eyes will wonder there often.

I would NOT put the entire tower in the dash! Jesus, put it in the trunk. That's what I'm doing to my '97 Jetta With a micro-ATX tower with my VIA in it and a LCD in the dash (Getting that made this weekend!)

i am custom building a radical new dash out of fiberglass myself. I am going to build the tower right in and build my ps2 in the dash to. I am putting 2 17'" lcd monitors in. one right in the instrument panel (wich will be modified dramaticly, gauges will be displayed on the monitor) and one right infront of the passenger seat. I think it is going to look *****ing wicked with the tower in the dash, instead of the trunk. but it is going to be alot of work to do it.

That is a pipedream, my friend. First of all, putting 2 17" screens in a Jetta is the equivalent of putting a 6" exhaust tailpipe and a 12" tall spoiler on the same car. Not only does it look tacky and ridiculous, it also just doesn't match or complement the car. I don't think you realize how much space a tower, PS2 and 2 17" monitors is going to take up once you fit it and space it the way you want. Its a Jetta for God's sake! There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing, you know.

what kinda car is this for again? I cant imagine how you can fit a tower, ps2 and 17" screen into a mk4 VW dash. But hope it turns out well

it's a 97 jetta, and no i do not live near chicago, i live in saskatchewan canada. but when you guys say i will not have enough room in my car, you dont realize that i am taking all of the dash and pannels out of the car. pretty much any plastic that you can see, and building a custom dash/pannels/etc. out of fiberglass which will be specifically designed to look good and fit everything i want. then i am going to paint everything and put some sparco seats in, sparco harnesses with jetta harness pads. also momo stearing wheel (with button for flamethrougher exhaust , peddels, e-brake handel, and shift knob (with button custom buildt in for nos) when i am done i will post many pictures

oh, and by the way i wont need any guages because they will be on the monitor infront of the driver with a obd program. plus i am putting in rockford separates, 6X9's, 3 soundstream amps (my favorite part of the car: being cooled by custom roof scoop that goes into the trunk, but i am not quite sure how to make this look good but if i make a prototype and it looks good i will add it.), and 2 pioneer subs in bandpass enclosures. i am gunna slap on a body kit like the one found here http://moldynamics.com/store/merchan...y_Code=Jetta_3 and wicked rims, ground effects (or undercar lights)

it is a mk3 jetta, whick in my opinion is much much more stylin then a mk4.

I fully agree with you, MK3 models are much better to hook up than newer versions. I own a vw golf vr6 which I would never exchange for mk4.
Right now im putting 10.4 display into modified (by myself) dashboard. God i thought 10.4" is big but 17"!? I wish you luck!

                          And post us some pics.

i really hope this isnt going to be a driven car... just for shows or somehting. i mean, windows, or any operating system IS going to crash, and probably while you are driving. so, for safety sake, i really hope you dont plan on driving this car much...

i am going to drive this car like all the time. i am going to buy the best computer i can to minimize the possibility of chrashes, but you bring up good point. i never thought of that before so thank you alot, i would not have wanted my tach to go dead on the street. off the top of my head i am thinking about building a tach into the dash and covered by a removable piece of fiberglass so if the computer does crash i can pop off the cover and be able to pull over. if you guys can think of a better solution plz post.
