I randomly found a link to this forum so this is the first thing that I have done here. I have searched for a little while but have not yet found something similar to what I was looking for. I will try and include pictures to help give a better idea. I currently drive a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have not, as of yet, made any major modifications to the soundsystem. I've looked around at mp3 cd players but have been disappointed.

I currently have an Alpine DSP so all of my EQ needs are under control as well as pre-amp output voltage, etc.

    All I really want is:

    a) a simple CD player w/: mp3 capabilities; no need for an internal amp, any pretty pictures, anything except RCA outputs
    b) a small screen to display song information (id3 tags, track #, time, etc)

What would it take to use the hardware/software/whatever inside something like the portable mp3 players like an iPod? I don't think I've seen an mp3 player that has a good ability to show what song is playing without having to scroll through the title 10 characters at a time.

I have seen some of the touchscreen options but I have only seen 7"+ screens and I don't want/need anything that big. I don't know if a touchscreen would really be necessary in this case. I have so many ideas but don't have the know-how or knowledge in electronics to get this dream a reality...

    Any ideas?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but here are a couple of projects you might find useful.

Or if you're a bit more ambitious/ tecnically proficient

I don't have a MP3 player in my car yet, and likely won't until my impending wedding is paid for, but I'm considering one of there directions.
