First of all think what lcd you want to get:5" 6" or 10"...then go for epia m10000 (in my opionion) with opus i've got 150W one; as soon as you start your project you'll figure out what to do next.

Unless you've got quite a bit of money, i'd suggest doing yout first project on the cheap. Thats what im doing soon with my first: Refurbished mobo (here ) My old Celeron 600 and 256mb of ram. I will be using my PSOne LCD screen, and probley a remote and a cordless mouse in it. So far the mobo, cpu, ram, LCD and case has totalled about $150 Australian.

            And yes, READ EVERYTHING

Figure out how much money you have to spend and what you want to do with the carputer. These are important too.

Personally i think it depends on what you have to begin with. If you like me and have ****loads of computer parts commin outa every orafice then you could whip somthing up on the cheep very easily. IE gsands $150 system. If not, save save save!!!
First thing is definetly to do alot of reading to get an Idea of other peoples setups, particually their problems, sucesses and failures.
Decide exactly what you want the system to be abel to do and work from here. Dont buy anything unless you are sure it will do the job you need it to do and dont be afraid to ask questions no matter how many people tell you to search.

PAL type. i have got comp parts coming out from most of my
                      orafices, but not lcds.......
only other thing i need is an inverter, or psu, which is gunna set me back

Ebay would be your best bet. Do a search for liliput vga. You can get one to Oz for AU$370. Or try a PSone LCD. They cost bugger all and can be used as a VGA monitor.
What system are you planing to run? Somthing like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tem=3434714092 May be ok for your needs and costs about AU$80. (you might want to regulate the 12V in tho.) I saw a 300w inverter at Super Cheep Auto for AU$130.
