  • Newbie needs som clarification please

Ok I have been reading ALOT before I even registered but somethings are just a little cloudy. I read a lot about epia this and that why is this such a popular mb? is it because its cheap and it has everything and all that needs to be bought is the dvd rom hd and case? Is it better just to build my own athlon xp comp or is it just a matter of pref? Also I havent read anything on this so far but if anyone is interested I can put a link to a website that you can remote start your computer

matter of preference really. People use a epia cause they are small, don't use much energy and run cool. They are powerful enough to run dvd's.

People don't really like athlons since they use a lot of power, they are bigger and output a lot of heat. Heat is a bad thing in car setups.

I have a amd 800mhz in my car and would love to get a epia mainly cause of I want a smaller setup

      Sure post the link

The epia are good for several reasons

      1. You are correct they are inexpensive and have a lot onboard.

      2. They use very little power ie low power consumption. You can run it off your battery for a long long time and not kill it and you don't need a big 350W power supply.

      3. They are much smaller than a regular mobo so you can fit it into very small cases or even your dash or glove box.

so epia is obviously the way to go then. Am I correct when I say the with New epia cl 1000 I would need to add a screen (planning on using the LILLI TS), ram, case, hd, and dvd rom? how many watts would the PS have to be for this epia 250 watts? I have no clue. Also do the sell long ide cable so I can have the dvd rom by me in the front versus the trunk

you cannot run 40pin IDE cable more then 3 feet. You'll have to get like a firewire to IDE adaptor to run those distances.
