  • How to get sound from carputer/amp to speakers

Hi all, yes I am a newbie here to these forums, just joined today. Anyway, I have done quite a bit of research on the "Carputer" topic but still have a couple of quick questions that I was hoping someone could help me with. I have an old Kenwood KDC-115S Head Unit that does not have md/cd changer controls so using a aux input adapter is not possible that I know of. However, the HU does have one set of preamp outputs on it. So, I am guessing the best way to hook it up would be to use an amplifier, right? But, my question is how do I get the sound from my "carputer" to the amplifier and then to the speakers? I have hooked up a number of amps before but the sound card to amplifier step has me confused. I will be using a simple PCI sound card if this helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated on this topic.

Or a thing called an FM Modulator,

you plug your sound inputs into it, ( from yu sound card)

then it sends it through your car sterio's radio.

not the best quality but it works.

      look on ebay for one

      cost me about £35

      Regards Andy

but stick to the amplifier - sound quality would be better
if quality is not an issue - go for FM modulator

35mm to RCA cable. This is a lot cheaper and sounds way better than an rf modulater but you have to be willing to run the wires through your car.

Thanks for the information guys. Where could I pick up one of these miniplug to RCA cables? Would Radio Shack have them or Parts Express? I tried searching at both but had no luck. TIA

                    Another option for you?

i ran into the same problem as you.

for me, carputer = super mobile sound system

i found a couple of soundcards that have built-in RCA outs for quick installation into your amplifier. all these radio-shack type connectors only serve to degrade the sound, i'm gonna have to suggest this to you

they're kinda more for mastering CDs and other audio stuff, but they're like the only ones that I saw.
