  • Can i use a PW-70 power supply???

Im thinking of putting a computer into my car, and was wondering if the PW-70 power supply (from http://store.ituner.com/ituner/posoformi.html ) run a VIA 10000N motherboard from the 12v from a car battery?

If so, why do people use other power supplies like the Opus, instead of this? Am i missing something?

Also, will my battery be able to handle everything that i have running in the car? The 2 amps, sub, computer etc? or will there need to be an upgrade?

BTW, greetings from Down Under!! (You know, Australia!!)

How about you read through some of the threads on this power supply in the Power supply forum.

In fact all the answers are there...

      Yea, i realised that..

Read through some threads and noticed that a 12V regulator is needed before the PSU. Was just wondering if there is a difference between, say, the ones on the internet, and the dashpc schematic (on yahoo newsgroups) and how much would it cost to build? Sorry about not knowing the answers regarding the dashpc one, but i have to still get acknowledged by the moderator there or something..

        Ok.

Some folks don't run a regulator before the PW70...I would.

Now the next part has to do with a shutdown controller...a piece of hardware that will boot, and shutdown the computer when appropriate...so the battery doesn't get run down.

The Opus is a complete power supply with a shutdown contoller...and can take the unregulated power from the car.

The PW70 is only a power supply. There are some circuits out there for a shutdown controller...and a 12v regulator.

I don't know the circuit you are talking about (I have seen it mentioned in these forums.

But I assume you mean this

Thanks alot for the info mate!

I dont have the money to fork out for an Opus PSU, and i doubt that i can get it locally, so the shipping would add even more to the price

Thats why i want to buy the PW70 and perhaps build the regulator and shutdown controller, ive got a few mates who could do all that in a short time..

          Thanks for the link..very helpfull!
