Ive got a few questions on applying power, but I will search and read before I post anything. Thanks for the site and I will post updates on my progress as it well......progresses. Maybe a worglog even.

So, after a year of BS'ing about doing this, I finally took the first step. Ordered a 7" Xenarc TSV. Still up in the air about which direction I want to go with my PC set-up. I have a Laptop just collectiong dust (Compaq Presario 2100), and I have enough saved to get a real car-pc. I read the Laptop vs. PC thread, but Im still not sure.

If I do go with the PC route, Im gonna get the MP3Car Custom Car Computer (3688). Nothing fancy on it because I have an external 200 gig HDD and an External DVD player(USB), but I have a few questions.

        1. It comes with the M1 ATX PS. Is that a DC-DC converter, or a start-up shut-down controller?

        2. a. How do I get the PC to start back up if I put it in Hibernate? I plan to have trhe PC in the back. DO I just touch the touchscreen? Or do I have to remote the start button to the front of the car?

        b. On the same note, do you use the setting in windows to put it in hibernate? Or do you use a jumper on the PS so that it knows to go in hibernate when you hit the on/off button? If someone could clear that issue up it would be great. I just dont want to have the carputer up and running, cut off the car to go to the store for 5 min, then comeback and have to redo the whole sequence?

What would really be great is a quickly made wiring diagram if anyone could hook me up. I know this is alot, but I wanna get this done right the first time. Thanks everyone.

lol, its cool. Im sure you guys hear all the timne from guys who just signed up and asked a unresearched question. As much as I havnt read EVERY single thread out there, I have read a bit, but Im still a little noobish. I have a good/long history with computers and fabrication, so thats not my problem. Im just confused about all the power options. I just read he Power Supply thread again, and it helped a little more, but I still need to get a good direction pointed to help me out.

Opus is the best DC-DC PSU on the market. This is what i use, so I can recommend it.

                        lol, well then thank you

I think Im just gonna go with the M1-ATX. Im not using anything extra off of the PSU other than what comes in the case, so 90 W will be more than enough. And I can always upgrade.

It is a ATX PSU with build in SDC. For short, it is both and a complete power solution.

The PC automatically turn on when you turn the key just like HU and amp by sensing the power on the ACC line of your car ign key. That is the job of the SDC. Some mobo offer "Resume on power loss" which automatically boot up the PC (selectable option in BIOS). You may have to enable/disable in BIOS to work with M1-ATX's SDC.

In Windows, you have to enable Hibernate and select an option that said "Hibernate when power button is press." (or similar). The SDC will "press" the power button on the PC.
There is a shutdown delay. The PC can continue running X minute before going to shutdown sequence.

Most of the answer to your question already answer somewhere by search, but I know the search is PITA.
Someone who has M1-ATX will give you better answer or better search cuz I don't have that PSU, but that is how I understand how it works.

                              - Memory 512MB DDR RAM PC2700 184-Pin DIMM Memory
                              - Sound Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
                              - Power Supply M1-ATX

Im going to run an External DVD player (USB 2.0) for the movies not on my HDD

An external 200GB Western Digital (USB 2.0) for MP3's, MPEG's........

That little keyboard off the MP3 car store site

No GPS as of yet, gonna make sure I get all the basics down first. So I guess as far as Carputer progess goes Im at about 40%
