  • 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Need Help

    Greetings all,
I have been doing alot of reading, measuring and am now that ready to start asking questions. First, my setup:
    mini-itx (either p4 3.06Ghz or M10000)
    512 DDR
    40 GB HDD
    slot load slim DVD
    Earthmate GPS (usb)
    4 or 5 channel amp
    usb wintv with fm tuner
    7" Touchscreen (sp7?)
    Wifi card
    wireless keyboard and mouse

    Requirements:
Total Replacement of the stock radio
play dvd, radio, mp3, avi, ect
    play tv
    GPS
    Light Gaming (xbox on trips)

    Questions for jeep owners:
-I've looked at a few designs and am wondering if I can put the LCD where the stock radio was while keeping the middle air vents?
-What are good places to place the computer while having the DVD drive in reachable proximity (for changing discs)?
-According to the specs I've given, what else do I need and what wattage should I put in?
-What is the biggest difference between the 7" SP7 and the Xenarc 7"TS that make up the $200 diff. (it isn't the brightness is it?)

Thanks guys and I'm glad to have finally found a forum about this.

    I'm thinking that a 60 W - 70 W should serve my purpose greatly.

    Towards Jeep GC Owners:
I thought about the location of the itx mobo. What about under the center console compartment? It dips about 3-4 inches in a small spot (towards the back of the compartment). If I cut that dip out and fab just a level spot in the compartment it might fit?

Not for the P4 3ghz, you'd probably want to got with a 150W opus, the 90W opus might do at a pinch. A PW70a/Carnetix combination might work too.

The P4 draws a LOT of power.

              This I know. I have a p4 laptop.
I am really wondering if I truely need a p4 for this type of application anyway. For what I'm wanting to do, has anyone had problems with the C3 Nehemiah 1Ghz?

To requote my intend, purpose and goal:
              GPS,DVD, light gaming (Half-life 1, warcraft 3), radio, tv (maybe), internet (wherever I can steal it...j/k ).

              Once again, thanks for replying.

IMO a P4 for a carputer is a tad over the top, surely something like a 1ghz/1.5ghz max will do, even for half life. That sort of power can definately handle mp3/nav/dvd etc

You might want to reconsider as you could save yourself a few 's and still have everything work perfectly.

The M10000 or MII12000 should be able to do what you want. However, I think a P4 mobo with a Pentium-M would be a reallycool combo.

Yeah, I looked into that and I have found that getting a p4-m is very expensive even at 1.5 Ghz (bout $300 at pricewatch). The 3.06 Ghz p4 would be $380 with the p4 m-itx mobo. So I think I will stick with a M10000, unless someone finds a M12000 for a good price (about 180)
