  • a few questions (PS, AMP, etc)

i recently decided i cant afford those cool in dash dvd nav systems... but i can put a PC in my car for a few hun.. with tons of mp3s and wireless net. searching brought me across this site - nice site. anyways-

original plan- throw a 1ghz dell desktop i have sitting around in my trunk, small lcd monitor up front, wire sound card to a amp. power the pc iith a inverter i have. research gave me new ideas.

    new plan-
    microATX board
custom case most likely, thinkin plexi cause i got some layin around
snap on style 200w DC-DC power supply with itps to regulate
    2.5" 5400rpm 30gb HD
    1.6ghz AMD
    1x 128mb PC2100
    pci sound card
    PCI wifi (or maybe usb/pcmcia)
i think a slim DVD drive(optical drive is undecided)
and i plan on looking into gps antennas/software. i plan on getting a small but quality 4ch amp and component speakers for the car audio.

if your still reading thank you and heres my questions:

whats the best priced and quality 7" VGA LCD? (touchscreen or not)

i was planning on using PW200M DC DC Power supply and a ITPS, from what i understand i can wire this strait to my car battery. would this work good ?

one thing i am worried about, running a sound cards outputs into a car amps inputs - will this sound good? will there be engine noise? will i need line driver? the sound part i think is gona be cool, cause i like the dsp's ive had on my PCs.

thanks for any help and suggestions, the power supply part is what i am most concerned about, and im trying to keep it under $100.

no itps is crap, wont survive crank, and may not work with the car off

use a decent soundcard, lots of people use creative usb soundcards because they can go away from the computer and close to the amp, this helps reduce the possiblity of interferance/noise

        thanks for the info.

ive never used a usb sound device, do people have problems alot with PCI? i already have my sights set on a turtle beach pci card, and it would be less mess.

what power supply would you recommend for the system im putting together? i know its not as low power as itx systems, but its cheap and fast. with cheap expansion possibilities. i figure 150w up would be safe. maybe less?

now that i read your post again there is no way that system would work with the itps, the largest amount of power the itps can regulate is 60w, so even if u use a 200w snap in your computer will still only get 60w

read up on posts about the 150w opus, i would assume it would be fine for this setup, how much power does the amd cpu draw?

damn, that sucks cause that power supply is like $200...

as for the cpu draw, if you mean watts, im not sure.. its a 1.6Ghz amd duron 1.5v applebred core.
